Cowboys Made Right Decision To Pass On Talib And Draft Jenkins

Bucs first-round CB Aqib Talib has gotten off to a rocky start with the team's brass.

Before training camp, Talib was late to meetings, got into a shoving match with a teammate, and missed a team flight. Coach Jon Gruden indicated the team has fined the rookie "heavily — and repeatedly — for violating rules." Talib was a red flag type coming out of college, so this pattern represents a problem.

I know that alot of people were wanting the Cowboys to take Talib but I wanted Jenkins all along because he is a good kid on and off the field.

Do you guys like what you see in Jenkins thus far?

Sure do... he seems like he's come from a humble upbringing and works hard to earn his stay... I can't wait to see him play this year... Hope he gets a pick or three this year...

Well, got to agree, Jenkins gets to learn from Henry, Newman and now Adam Jones. Not a bad way to start off your career.

We didn't pass on Talib. He was taken at #20, before we picked at #22.

I admit I wanted Aqib Talib big time. He was from the pass happy Big 12, and he is a bigger CB like Henry. And when the coaches at Kansas totally backed him up and said he was a great kid - it all sounded believable. No one will trust those Kansas coaches again.

Well he hasnt pushed anyone as far as I know...thats a plus

Its the first weeks of training camp in his rookie season. Still too early to develop an informed opinion I would think.

I can almost assure you, Jerruh would have taken Talib at 22, if he was there.

how much will jenkins really play this year?-but i like the pick.

Exactly what I was thinking... I remember Mangino saying what a great kid he was and how he hadn't had any problems since he was a freshman.

But yeah, what a punk Talib is. Looks like the right decision to take him off our board.

I can assure you he wouldn't have. I was actually shocked when he took Felix over Jenkins. I was sky high on Antoine Cason. The day before the Draft I openly admitted we were going to take Jenkins if he was there.

Look at Jenkins stats, specifically QB ratings (it was below 15) when they threw in his direction. There is a reason he was the top CB in the Draft prior to the Combines.

I think Talib was a reach over Jenkins anyways.

McKelvin, DRC, and Jenkins were the clear cut best 3 imo and it wasnt even close.

I also felt Jenkins was the most safe pick out of all the corners in this draft as well.

I'd like to know how DRC and McKelvin are doing.

Also Brandon Flowers.

Haven't heard a lot about Flowers, but what I have heard sounded positive. He'll be starting in KC.

For months leading up to the draft I tried telling anyone that would listen we shouldn't draft Talib.

Now we are starting to see why.

I watched him his entire career. None of this news is any surprise.

any news on the guy I actually wanted us to take.......Antoine Cason? I bet the Chargers are happy to have him in camp.

Yup.

There were character concerns for sure leading up to the Draft.

Jenkins didn't have any character issues coming out at all?
I really thought there was something about him people were talking about.

I don't pay attention to the college game, too many teams for me to keep up with.

It was reported after the draft that he was not even on the Cowboys draft board because of character issues.

Jenkins was arrested once when a fight broke out at a bachelor party. The cops said he took an aggressive stance or something when they were arresting his teammate.

the cowboys never even considered talib. They knew everything about him. he is from DFW, Richardson if I remember correctly and they knew he hung out with drug dealers and gang type guys.
