On Lunchbreak, Nick Eatman said that they cut Julian Hawkins today, put Brandon Williams on IR, and put Robert Brewster on PUP to get to 75.

Interesting on Brewster. I wonder if they think he can recover in time for the end of the season. They have 12 weeks basically, plus all the time he has lost so far. Since he didn't practice in Training Camp he was eligible for the PUP.

Oh, and I meant to say, "Julian Hawkins? What about Courtney Brown? Can't the coaches see what we see? Don't they want to send a message?"

Why Robert Brewster only on the PUP? Isn't he pretty much done for the year? Why not IR?

Hmmm. Sounds like a smart move. If we have some injuries and a spot opens up for someone who is going to be inactive anyway, it makes sense to get him a little practice time.

HaHa! Hostile! Evidently they didnt want to send a message. I still feel that they should have though.

We will see how they play this friday night, and if penalties and mistakes are fixed, if penalties and mistakes are not corrected, then what do you have to say?

It doesnt always work out the way i see it or you see it. So, I guess they are doing it the Hostile way, because his fantasies are greater then mine, sometimes.

We all are giving our comments and thoughts and its not always going to hit all the time, but if it did hit all the time, that would be scary.

I still think you have to remember that the coaches saw Courtney Brown play pretty well when called upon last year. It could be that they are looking at a larger body of work than just the preseason...if they know he can play better, they may keep him.

Cowboys make roster moves

To reach the 75-man limit, the Cowboys waived wide receiver Julian Hawkins, moved rookie tackle Robert Brewster to the reserve/physically unable to perform list and placed rookie linebacker Brandon Williams on injured reserve.

The Brewster move is interesting because it means he is out for at least the first six weeks of the season and not the entire year. Maybe the Cowboys are counting on him coming back at some point from his torn pectoral muscle, however, it is highly unlikely.

Williams will have surgery in the next few weeks to repair his torn ACL. Hawkins never really made an impact in practices or in the preseason games and did not play vs. San Francisco. And for those wondering, rookies Mike Hamlin and Jason Williams, who have wrist and ankle injuries, are not eligible for the PUP list. You have to be on PUP for the first day of training camp.

The moves were required after claiming defensive back DeAngelo Willingham off waivers from Tampa Bay and signing cornerback Jeremy Haynes, the Cowboys

i think the other part is that we are really thin at CB with the fact that Newman most likely doesn't play this week, and Scandrick and Jenkins probably don't get a whole lot of time, and Ball may not play at all. if Brown was let go we would only have Mickens and Smith (who also would be playing safety) and the guy we signed off the street.

i think we can all go nuts if Brown isn't gone with final cuts (unless he turns into Deion this Friday.

Joe, I don't know how many people told, or how many times we said it, or how many different ways we tried in vain to explain it to you. I certainly don't know why I am trying again.

Cutting a player in pre-season when roster cuts are due DOES NOT send any kind of message UNLESS the player cut is a legit star player who has screwed up royally.

Here's a tip for future hand wringing reference. If you notice that guys are not getting any playing time at all in the pre-season games; like Julian Hawkins, they are probably going to get cut BEFORE a Courtney Brown will be. Every time.

They need Courtney Brown because Ball is injured and they don't want to play the big three very much in a meaningless preseason.

i understand that, and thats probably true, but just like you believe in what you believe in, i believe in what i believe in, doesnt make me right or wrong, its just my theory and thoughts.

i understand that speedkilz, and that most likely why, they did what they did. Yet, I believe you should hold true to your convictions. Stand firm, wont be the last time i was wrong and wont be the first time i was wrong.

And the cowboys could possibly still be watching the waiver wire to see if the come up with a better cb than courtney or wr then stanback.

To a degree we are monday morning qbs giving our opinions, theories, and thoughts. Sometimes, your wrong, sometimes your right, or you have a good ideal.

Thats the beauty of the board, you can discuss your opinions, and i always encourage that.

If we all agreed on everything, would be a dull world.

You are certainly free to believe what ever you want to believe. But to believe that it doesn't make you right or wrong, is not true. It absolutely DOES make you wrong if you believe cutting someone who played bad when roster cuts are due anyway is anything but wrong.

I can believe with all my heart, the that sky is not blue. But, that belief would still be WRONG, no matter how much I believe it.....

Agreed. In fact, I would say it sends the opposite message: You're doing your job (well enough to not get cut yet).

Which isn't to say that penalties aren't a concern, of course. This is my biggest worry for this team at this stage.

Like I said, if you aren't even seeing Julian Hawkins, Rudy Carpenter, Jessie Holley, et al hit the field in pre-season game sit is safe to say that they aren't impressing the coaches enough to earn even that right.

Bag on Courtney Brown, Isaiah Stanback, and Cory Procter all you want, they at least are being given chances by the coaching staff to show them something.

You are not alone in not realizing this. Many fans want these guys cut right now. It is never going to happen that way. I hate to burst that bubble but if you have paid attention to NFL History you will find that some guys make the team even if they screw up a lot in pre-season. This happens despite fan and media disapproval. Why? Because in practices or somewhere else, the team and staff see something in that player worth trying to refine.

No charge for the lesson.

I'm fairly sure that guys like Brown, Proctor, etc. will receive their entree of disappointment soon, probably Saturday.

They have four days left and fill positions where we need fresh bodies to play Friday. Hawkins was expendable because not only had he played sparingly, he has Holley, Jefferson, Johnson, Reid and Stanback all in front of him with no shot at standing out.

Thats where i disagree, to me, by cutting a player that makes mistakes, sends a message. Now, granted cutting one of them wouldnt do it, but cutting 2 of those players would send that message.

Thats how i feel and what i believe in. The mental errors, stupid penalties, have to stop. Again, I said also the team could make players run extra laps, or do something to show them you mean bussines and your not going to put up with the stupid dumb stuff.

You have to stop it, just saying to the players, dont do it again, or i think they realize that making those mistakes cost the team by losing the game wont get it done.

You have to do something to get their attention. That was my whole point about sending a message, maybe i said it wrong, or have zoners understand what i was trying to say, but you have to correct the mistakes. Or they become a habit. If you dont correct them in a discipline type of action, what makes you think the person will chance. To me, it doesnt, just becomes a habit.
Just like columbo jumped, leonard davis held (the ref on the tv though said proctor was called for holding). Granted you cant and dont want to cut those super caliber players, but you have to discipline them some way. Like Jimmy Johnson made Irvin sit out first series in a game because he missed a plane flight. Also, Emmitt Smith was asked, did jimmy johnson ever get onto you, emmitt said yes, all the time. Emmitt went on to say he did that all the time, but jimmy also told emmitt privately one time, you know why i had to do that, jimmy said, if the players see that i get onto my stars, then they have no chance, when i get on them even more.

Sometimes, players themselves, have to say enough is enough, rookie or courtney or stanback, dont mess this up. Like one time in a huddle, lincoln coleman messed up on a player, when he came back to the huddle, aikman grabbed him by the jersey and said, your not going to mess this up.

Thats what im driving at, you have to keep sending a message to the team, in some form or fashion or way, just saying i think they understand now you lose ballgames that way or dont do it again, wont work.

I appreciate eveyone's feedback, and thoughts.

But enough of that, time to move on, i know how you feel and think and you know how i feel and think.

I'm afraid that Pat Watkins is that guy. I want him gone, but he's probably staying.

Procter for me. I can't get the image from the Giants game out of my melon.
