Cowboys met with OL Elijah Wilkinson

My thoughts on Wilkinson are 100% based on the price. He is exactly what this team needs if they do the smart thing and play their best 5, which I still think they will. He can step in at LG when Tyron gets hurt and Tyron will get hurt. He is better than Edoga at OG but not really even NFL average. signing him to a one year $3M or so deal would be a great move. It still allows us to go OG in the draft early, but makes it so that we don’t have to force it if the right player isn’t there and most importantly it gives us a vet that can step in at OG to team up with Edoga who can step in at OT. Sometimes it’s the role players that make or break a season. They don’t have to be good, just not horrible and that’s the category I would put the two of them In.

My thoughts on Chuma O is he's not played in more than 11 games in a season. In 4 full seasons in the NFL he has played in 26 games. Backup? Camp fodder? Doesn't look promising from the availability standpoint but I'll say this for Cowboy coaching . . . they know how to develop OL personnel pretty staunchly.

On Wilkerson ... go get him. He adds to this team !

Chuma likely makes the 53. He plays two positions and Dallas was after him during the trade deadline last year.

He's made vet minimum the past two years with Bears & Falcons. He would be fine to take to camp for that, just like Edoga. Is a better OG than OT, has slow feet but can be a swing tackle in emergency situations.

Edoga struggled with the Jets as a RT but played as a backup with the Falcons and filled in at OG and played pretty well for a few games.

He is also a downgrade from McGovern. Both are close to the same in run blocking, but McGovern was significantly better as a pass blocker. He is the type of guy they go after. But he is also the type of guy fans want gone after they see him play in a Cowboys uniform

True, but he emerged as a solid starter last year. I'm not worried about the Cowboys not retaining him though.

It's all about having competition along the offensive line and good depth. Right now, Fairnok and Edoga are the depth players. I feel fine with Fairnok backing up center, I'm also curious how Alec Lindstrom can develop. Edoga should be a capable backup but has missed time and there's not a lot else there. Tackle is an unknown and don't know if Waletzko and Ball.

The fact we're talking about needs for backups rather than starters is a positive.

Probably more of a back up. Anyone that signs for that level of a contract you have to assume won't be starting. What you probably get with Edoga is a guy that can play a few different spots in a pinch

Think he is on the level with Farnoik, fine as a spot starter, but will get exposed if he plays more.

Is Dalton Risner is unsigned? He was the best guard on the fa market. If they want to fix LG with a veteran, this would be the player to sign.

This F.O keeps winning if they can get this done. This guy can be a bridge to a guy like Voorhees, or another guy they like in Atonio Mafi.

Any time you start a rookie you are putting a player on the field that has never experienced the speed of the NFL game, he is overwhelmed by a veteran opponent. Any rookie not drafted in the top ten has areas in his game that needs improvement in order to prosper as a starter.

One preseason isn't going to polish an offensive lineman and we saw Tyler Smith struggle at times, no criticism intended, he will get better quick and he will become a very successful player for us but starting rookies along the offensive line is dangerous unless they are the 2nd coming of Larry Allen.
