Cowboys Mock Draft 4/5/25 (3 rd's)

Hard choice was taking Williams over one of those 2nd tier receivers, but love the day 2 haul
I actually have an idea on how the Cowboys can fill all their needs with your trade back idea. They won’t get the defensive end though but I believe they can survive with what they have. I am putting lots of trust in Sam Williams or Kneeland to pop. Trade back and draft Golden or Burden in the first round. Hopefully with the trade you have two second rounders where you can draft a cornerback and defensive tackle. Use your third rounder on a running back. I think with that trade down you can get 4 legitimate players that could be starters by the end of the season. Yeah we won’t get the edge rusher or young right guard but we would fill the other glaring holes.

I have changed my mind on Burden. I have him as the second best receiver to Golden in this draft. Cook or whatever name was at quarterback for Missouri was awful…… I mean Burden should have a left the program because the quarterback play was that bad.

Trading back is our best course to fill most of our needs. It’s going to be hard to find a trading partner and we might have to take less back in a deal to bail out of our position.

We don’t know that. Who would have thought Detroit wanted Arnold and overpaid for him. Buffalo jumping us for a tight end. This draft will be unpredictably wild. The Cowboys might want a certain player and not trade down from 12. Especially if you listened to the Schotty interview.

Good plan just have to cross our fingers on a trade down partner.

I get the impression they will take their guy at 12. They will trade down if it makes sense but they are not obsessed like we on the board are.

I have warmed up to Burden. Looked at him throughout his career at Missouri. His quarterback killed him last year. I don’t know of a worse quarterback in the SEC than Cook. I see a better version of Zay Flowers. We could use that type of player.

Love Burden on tape - hearing off the field concerns might push him out of the 1st so I’m actually probably out on him at 12 if it’s true.

I have never seen a wide receiver with his talent play with such a bad quarterback. I wonder if he will make it to 44.

I see a better Zay Flowers. Especially that 2023 highlight video. Burden is talented.
Oh man I don’t know about that…Zay was basically a similar athlete but was more proven playing outside and a bit of a better route runner.

I’d have Zay just a tick higher but Burden’s size and YAC make it close.

Zay played in the ACC while Burden was in the SEC. I will always take the SEC talent. I just see similarities.

That’s fair and I’d usually agree with you - but from an actual skill set perspective I think Zay was more polished as a prospect.
I am fine with all the 1st rd receivers, which is why I would love to trade back, get a pick and a receiver in the process. Of course, it would depend upon who I am trading away from. In this scenario, I had zero issues traded away from Jalen Walker, where Johnson/T-Mac were off the board.

I used the Pro Football Network Simulator.

My goal was to bail out of the 12th pick and get another top 50 selection

Trades

12 to Cincy for 17 & 49 (Jalen Walker)
76 plus late rd picks to Rams for 90 & 101

17-Mykel Williams DE Georgia (Golden, Harmon, Green were still on the board)
44-Tyliek Williams NT Ohio State (perhaps the best true NT in the class)
49-Carson Schwesinger LB UCLA (most instinctive LB in the class, my #1 pet cat in the class)
90-DJ Giddens RB Kansas State (our OL coach comes from K-State)
101-Cobee Bryant CB Kansas (Strong zone corner)

-Run defense is now shored up in a big way.
-Starting to believe if they don't draft a 1st rd receiver, they won't take one and go the veteran route
-Added necessary depth at the corner position
-Would still like to add another running back on day 3 like B. Smith from SMU who would be a good complement
Were both running backs from Ohio off the board at 49

Great haul, lots of really good players to help fill out this roster. I for one would have a hard time passing on Walker at 12 and I'm not sold on taking Williams over other possibly available players.

BUT, the cavoite that almost everyone seems to be ignoring is that, it is far more likely that they do not get a trade back offer of any real good value this year. We need to prepare ourselves for that. This team is going to have to get creative to get another early pick. Maybe trade away a current player and/or add some our late rd picks since we have an over abundance of them.
Or try to trade back a little in rd 2 and then put together a package to move back up into the late 3rd or early 4th. There will always be a way to get another pick. But the question is, will the cost be too much to pay or is the return not enough to accept?
