I don't think I would have Irvin on there. Perhaps Tony D, or even Aikman before Irvin.

I agree with the article choices since the article's proposition is limited to players only. If consideration was wide open, I would subtract Irvin for Tom Landry.

I think that any Mount Rushmore type discussion has to include Landry and Tex Schramm but of course, if this is only players then I understand why neither would be included. The problem with being a Cowboy fan in discussions such as this is that there are so many to consider. Lots of great, great players. Of course, that's also the fortunate part of being a Cowboy fan.

Anyone it should be Landry, Staubach, Aikman, Lilly

Players Only Staubach, Aikman, Lilly, Emmitt

Other potential choices would be Randy White, Tony Dorsett, Jason Witten, Tex Schramm, Jerry Jones (like it or not)

Tom Landry, Roger Staubach, Bob Lilly, and me.

After all, if this is my creation, I can channel my inner Teddy Roosevelt, yes?

The modern day version is below.

In reality, I would go with Landry, Staubach, Lilly and Emmitt Smith.

Horribly wrong.

It begins with Tom Landry, or you don't have a discussion.

Landry, Lilly, Staubach, Emmitt

It's pretty clear-cut to me.

Only players. Have to be iconic.

Icons from an era?

70s Staubach
90s Emmitt

Who else?
60s icon?
80s icon?

I know everyone wants to force Landry on here even though it's players only, but we have sooooo many players to choose from guys. lol.

If you did it this way, I'd say 60s would have to be Bob Lilly. First 1st round pick of the Franchise and should be on the list anyway.

For the 80s, I'd say Randy White. He play through 88, he's a HOFer and he could arguably be on the list on his own merits.

I was wondering about White.

So, Lilly over Meredith?

Like most have said, it should absolutely be:

Landry, Staubach, Lilly, Emmitt.

It's completely clear. No debates needed.

Now, it's players only, that makes it tougher. Our top three players ever are so obvious, no matter how you rank them.

But that fourth spot, you could argue Aikman, Irvin, Allen, Randy White, Meredith... Way too many choices. And if the Cowboys win it all this year, we'll have another choice we can add to the list.

I would. I would put Lilly on the Cowboys Rushmore, regardless of how you decide to put it together. He was the first. First pick, first truly great player, first HOFer. He was the first.
