There are different levels of respect in the NFL and all tiers must be earned the hard way.

You come into the league with nothing but if you produce big and do it consistently you get your card and all the privileges. Respect. Notice. Attention. A nod of the head from opposing players and fans. Come contract negotiation time you get more cheese.

There is another membership that is a bit different. You get this card only with playoff success. It doesn't matter what you've accomplished in the regular season. You only get this membership by what you do in January when the games are do or die.

Frankly it doesn't even matter how well you perform in the playoffs if you don't take it all the way. But if you get one title, and also buttress it with some other strong finishes....you got your card.

Right now I suggest only three teams have membership in this elite club: the Patriots, the Seahawks and the Packers. They not only have the success but they are still employing the same coach and the same quarterback who got them there. That's key: these memberships aren't transferrable.

I don't begrudge one bit the people who say Green Bay will win...that Aaron will carry them to a victory. The Packers earned that cred. The Cowboys on the other hand have zero playoff gravitas. Our recent history is an empty cupboard and our quarterback has yet to venture into the deep waters.

Nobody opens a door and says, "hey, join us." In fact the door is always locked. The members of this club only gain access by knocking the door in and seizing the booty within.

It's time for the Cowboys to go earn their card.

Wouldn't want it any other way. Knock off the pack then the hawks and the two best NFC teams for the past ten years will know they no longer are top dog. Then for good measure the Pats and the entire world will know America's Team is back! Then what is anyone going to say...nothing!

Good post. I'd add the Steelers. All 4 teams have won Super Bowls with their current QB.

In my view there are a few fringe clubs. The Steelers certainly have some credibility, but they are no longer in "The Club" imo.

Here's why.
- It's been 6 years since they won a Super Bowl.
- Tomlin hasn't won one...not yet anyway

I think most people look at the coach and the quarterback as they key ingredients for a playoff sturdy team. Both.

Tomlin won one in 2008 and lost one in 2010. They have not had a losing season since he has been coach.

I think Tomlin is a good coach but he wasn't HC in '08. I'm talking about reputation...cred....auro...mystique and that comes from lifting that trophy in a pivotal role.

Some of the best players and some really good coaches have never won Super Bowls. But you win a SB and you build belief into your organization...and a bit of fear into your opponents.

If Rogers hadn't won that one Super Bowl...we'd all feel differently about Sunday's game.

The Cowboys can get that card too. We all know what it means.
