I wouldn’t give up too much draft value but RB contracts are peanuts even at the top end so if you think he is a good fit then it’s worth looking at. RB is probably still a buy now position with their depressed value but I think in the next few years those contracts are going to skyrocket as teams adjust accordingly. It’s already happening now with RB contracts starting to creep up a bit but they are still comparatively dirt cheap for a critical skill position.
I don't agree with any of that I realize there's a couple of elite running backs that got paid elite money but that's just a top end of the running back market most of them average around 8 million it's not a buy now which you should be doing is drafting the last two years it's strange that I expected them to get a running back in the 1st 3 rounds and they didn't that's where the value is you get you a running back every 4 to 5 years out of the draft and then you just keep doing it you should never have to pay your running back that much..
If you want to look at that you look at Christian mccaffrey who didn't earn that money at all in San Francisco san Francisco been to the Super Bowl and lost without him they did the same exact thing using it running back by committee they pay him all that money and then he just sits out the entire year for 19 million that's the reason not to pay a player I know Saquan Barkley earned that highest paid mark but that's overpaying for even him that's my opinion look but there are very few even if he is worth that kind of money making 20 million at running back it's too high of a risk they're one of the positions that get pounded and they get wore out quicker than any other position it says you should be getting younger every four to five seasons get a new running back....
That's the mistake this front office has made is two years in a row they don't address it they've always had one of the best running backs they went from Demarco Murray to Ezekiel Elliott and for some reason they thought maybe they can get that out of Pollard but right at that moment where they decided not to keep Pollard which I agree with he's not wasn't worth $11 million they should have went into the draft and picked one in the 1st 3 rounds and just got it over with...
There were so many great running backs this year it's a head scratcher that they didn't pick 1 and the 1st 3 rounds it would not have been a waste I would rather use a high draft pick on a running back every four to 5 years then pay $20M but this is just a short burst it is not a trend...IMHO
If you look at the average salaries it's not really going that far up you may have the top five in the league making an average of 15 million but after that the true average is about $8 million for a running back everybody's salaries are going up so when you say that it's a buy now that would be all contracts there is significantly rising at defensive end corner they're all going up.....
It's been going up because that whole new concept of I want to be the highest paid paid skill player in the league only second to the highest paid quarterback they literally want to have the honor of the highest paid skill player no longer top five and that's what's hurting the league right now it's harder to get contracts done when everybody wants to be the next highest market player and not just the highest paid or at least top 5 at their position....
Like I said I understand why you said it but I don't agree with it you definitely don't give a draft pick for this guy he's not any better than James Connor and you see what he got that's more in line with what normal just really good running backs will get they haven't earned an elite tag...
I mean they could have picked up Nick Chubb for free anybody who thinks they're gonna do this is just delusional they could have gotten Derek Henry for $9 million last year they didn't they're not going after this guy he's not anywhere in the same league..
