He had some pass rush ability, but he had issues mentally playing in the scheme. The Strong Side OLB position in both RR's and Wade's defense was very difficult mentally. You had to know when to rush, play coverage or play the run and he just couldn't figure that out. He might have been better as a Weak Side DE in some schemes; although, I don't know if he is really big enough for that.

No...I am not calling for him to come back to work in this scheme. Sorry if that came across that way as it was not my intent.

He was just one of those players that got limited snaps that I enjoyed watching.

No, I didn't think you were, I was just relaying my memory of him. I think he had a significant injury at some point in NO and that might have something to do with his release.

No to McUgly, but if Parnell leaves and Free stays in 2015, lookout Weems and Hawkins, you could be my new pet cats. :D

If Parnell stays, lookout Tyron, I might start advocating for Parnelll to take over at LT if Tyron has some more below average games.;)

Well, you do need to start picking on the weaker starting tackle.

After all, Smith has committed far more penalties (7) than Free (2) this year.

You can never go wrong with a Jennifer Aniston post. On the other hand, you are never ever right with a Matthew Perry post. Mark me down as conflicted.

Well, we could add him to the practice squad and pick his brain  for everything he knows about the Bears' defense for our upcoming game.

I can't figure out why the Bears chose Dixon over Matt Johnson:)

I tried go show restraint and not post that Parnell was the best OT on the field in the games he played. I joke but Tyron did have some issues in a couple of games, but I assume that his ankle was an issue.

I assume that too, although I think we sometimes have a tendency to notice mistakes and color our interpretation of players' performances by them, when their overall play was at least better than average.

We get to the point where we expect shut-down players, and few, if any, truly exist. Larry Allen was about the closest I've seen as a lineman and even he lost a battle from time to time.

I think Free in the voting is obviously benefiting from the recognition Dallas' line is getting this season, but he does fall into the category of performing better than a lot of people think. The perception of him is colored by his inexplicable two years of struggling. He's not ideal because he's not powerful enough to overcome technical mistakes, but when he plays with good technique, he's a solid starter.

I don't think he's a Pro Bowl-caliber lineman, but I can't say I've paid enough attention to the rest of the tackles in the NFL this year to really determine that.

Probably won't be out of a job for long. The Bills will pay him $10 an hour to move snow and he'll get to see a NFL game.

Dixon had a job coming out of camp and did something stupid, his second or third of camp. When you're a 7th round draft pick you don't get to screw up repeatedly and still make a team.

I was re-watching some games last night. As I've said many times, Free is good enough; however, they leave yards on the field due to him. They like to try to run just inside the OT a few times per game. The OT just has to hold the point or hopefully get a little movement on the DE or 3-4 OLB. Free really struggles to do it consistently. Parnell on the other hand often drives the defender completely out of the area.

Free is better at making the reach block on the backside of the Zone Stretch to the left; however, it's hit or miss if the defender can get to the RB on that play even without a good backside block. The power run inside RT on the other hand is doomed if the RT can't make the block.

I guess for me it's more about style of play than who is better overall. Yes, Free might be better overall for the OL with his 77 starts vs 4 for Parnell; however, I enjoy Parnell's punch you in the mouth style over Free's finesse style.
