News: Cowboys need to say no to Earl Thomas trade

It's an article, but of course you didn't click the link to read it. Just ******** about it in ignorance like everyone else. Not that I even agree with the article.
Apologies for insulting you, did not mean to.

OK, now I've read the article. It's a retread of what's been discussed on these boards ad nauseum. As I suspected. Sorry, Speedy, but it was a waste of time.

I believe they have said no at current asking price. I think this is largely media and fan driven.

I’ll be glad when season starts and ET is wearing Seahawks uni.

I don’t want his overpriced injury risk here. We got large contracts to think about soone enough his contract don’t need to complicate things

Go with young guys
Tell me the last great team that did it with young players and no veteran presence.

Dallas is already one of the youngest teams in the league.

The defense SUCKS without Sean Lee. Imagine having two Sean Lees with the young talent.

Without Thomas, this is a 7-win team.

They were a 9 win team last year with a harder schedule and no zeke for 6 games,...this is at least as good a team and a be5ter defense....no reason to say 7 wins is likely

I think this will be a tougher schedule than last year.

And last year wasn't a 9-win team. You don't get to count a 6-0 win when our starters played Philly's third-stringers.

I would love to have ET. He is (or was) without a doubt a top 20 defensive player in the NFL in his hey day. He probably still pretty close to what he was but there are three big IFs hanging over his acquisition:

1. The price- we absolutely shouldn’t give anything higher than a 5th rounder. The longer his holdout goes on, the lower the price should be.

2. His age- Thomas is an “old” 29 because he entered the league at 21 and has 8 tough years on that body including a broken leg in 2016. He has missed 7 regular season games the last two years. He may have 2-3 good years left, but it’s hard to know. When he was injured in 2016, he once tweeted he was considering retirement.

3. His contract- Thomas got an appropriate contract in 2015. He was worth the big bucks. But as his current contract nears its end, he is expecting another big pay day. Dallas must be careful not to overpay for an older defensive guy on a team already strapped for Future cap space.

If...ET can be acquired with the right conditions, it would be a good move for this defense. But only if it’s good for the long term status of this team. I hope it works out. We will see.

You can think it's harder all you want but it's still not a 1st place schedule and that's a fact.

Also, even taking the last game of the season away they still won 8 legit without zeke for 6 of the season...

My point stands that this team has at least stayed even and saying they are at best a 7 win team is incorrect

Only two games are affected by what place you finish.

Most believe this is a harder schedule than last year.

Oh, and Philly won the Super Bowl without their starting QB, LT, RB, TE, MLB, OLB, S, and CB.

Don't bother me with the Zeke excuse.

I'm not bothering you at all...simply stating the fact that our schedule this year is not as hard as last yeats 1st place schedule was and that we won 9 games last year with a team that was no better than ours to start this year.

Hence why I disagreed with the poster saying we are a 7 win team at best.

The whole 1st place schedule versus last-place schedule is always overrated. It's only two games.

The Eagles play the Rams and Vikings. Dallas plays the Seahawks and Lions. I think the Packers are the best north team anyway, and the Commanders have to play them.

The rest of the schedule is the same other than home and away.

We didn’t have Thomas last year and won 9. I’d take that bet. Thomas is a waste of draft pick and money and at best if he can stay on the field may get you 1 victory.

IMO the key to success is the front 7 and I believe they have dramatically improved up front . Get pressure on q.b and your secondary can cover

“you are what your record says you are”
Bill Parcells

You don't get to cherry pick wins and losses based on who shows up on game day. You could make excuses every game.

With Xavier Woods and Jeff Heath?

Lol. They'll destroy us deep.

I see it different. I think the defense has improved with experience and players. I think our pass rush will make the secondary a little better

Hearh started last year and many were very dissatisfied with Byron Jones as the other safety, yet we didn’t have a problem with getting burned deep last year.

They didn't win 9. Philly sent their double A team to the last game.

And Dallas got DESTROYED in 4 games. Legitimate teams don't get skulled 4 times in one season.

Did you watch the games?

Earl Thomas would make the secondary a LOT better.

Did you watch the games?

Yep, I did, and I confirmed what I saw by looking up the numbers. The Cowboys were 8th best in the NFL in the number of 20+ yard completions given up and 7th best in the number of 40+ yard completions given up.
