News: Cowboys need to say no to Earl Thomas trade

And last year wasn't a 9-win team. You don't get to count a 6-0 win when our starters played Philly's third-stringers.

I think he would be a definite uptick for our D, but I still wouldn't commit that kind of money to a 29 year old player. Then again I've got that "We're broke & can't afford to spend any money" mantra ingrained into my psyche.

I don't want to give up the pick. And I'd like to see what Heath and Woods have this year at FS.

Next year, we could think about it, depending on Heath and Woods.

The Earl Thomas rumors will continue right up until October 30th. Then they can finally go away (until they start up again in March next year)!!

It's really simple.

With Earl, the Cowboys will have an above average defense that can play against the Eagles or and other good offenses.

Without Earl, the Cowboys will have an average at best defense that will get steamrolled by the Eagles and other good offenses.

The secondary needs a veteran presence. Especially a star veteran presence.

Agree 100%. Dallas if they do pull off a trade will be really glad they did. If they do not pull off a trade, will regret it for several years to come.

I hope that Dallas gets this guy. He is sorely needed NOW.

They were a 9 win team last year with a harder schedule and no zeke for 6 games,...this is at least as good a team and a be5ter defense....no reason to say 7 wins is likely

Maybe this is just news to me, but this tidbit from the Star Telegram makes me think that this deal has a serious chance of happening:

Per a source, Thomas would already be with the Cowboys if a contract extension was the only obstacle. If this is accurate, I don't see how it doesn't get done. There's no way that Thomas will report and play a full season for the Seahawks knowing they won't give him the extension that the Cowboys will. It seems only a matter of time before they come down off of their asking price.

I hear that. I feel much the same. But Thomas has rare talents, knows Richard's schemes, and brings veteran experience at the highest level to our low experience secondary.

We're in a pretty good position to make a run. We're in good cap shape. Centerfied, over the top free safeties with real speed can transform a defense. I've always thought that Thomas was the linchpin of Seattle's defense.

Overspend a little for Thomas next year as a short term keystone, if it looks like we've made a real jump this year? I'm wavering.

Too bad he's not a free agent this year. I don't want to spend the pick, but it sure would be nice to have him help with installing Richard's schemes the first year.

That's why trades are top players are next to impossible. If it were just Seattle trading with the Cowboys, both sides would work out a deal in mutual interest. We want him more than they do. But it's hard for that mutual interest to overcome the third the league will pay Seattle *not* to make a deal.

Exactly what will they get in a comp pick? And where's the guarantee that they won't sign any free agents of their own to actually get that comp pick? And what's more valuable? A 2019 3rd round draft pick of a 2020 comp pick that comes at the very end of the round?
