Scout's Notebook: Intriguing Practice Battles, Wilson's Development; More - Bryan Broaddus, Dallas Cowboys
When the Cowboys open up practices, no one sees more than Bryan Broaddus. He has another report full of great information. One of his observations involved a connection we hope to see often this season. One of Dak Prescott’s best throws of the day was the strike he delivered to Rico Gathers during Blitz Period. Prescott, standing in the middle of the pocket, managed to fit the ball between Byron Jones and a driving Robert Blanton. Gathers did a great job of working Jones up the field to the outside, then broke hard inside to buy the space. Prescott knew exactly where he was going with the ball and he let it fly right at chin level for Gathers to haul in. If the pass had been a tick late or off the mark, Blanton would’ve knocked it down.

Entering His 8th Season, Dez Bryant Has Grown Into A Leader By Example - Jonathan Auping, Dallas Cowboys

Maybe in his 8th season we will finally try to get the ball in his hands more instead of just letting the defense take him away.

We give him the 50-50 ball when we are completely desperate and if he doesn't deliver then everyone just bashes him.

Meanwhile in places like Pittsburgh and Atlanta they are doing all kinds of quick passes and pick routes to get their best WR in space.

Not sure if I should be encouraged by Rico making plays on our starters or dismayed that B. Jones is getting juked.

Jason Witten still surpises at his age and still able to get the best of Linebackers and Safetys in the league. What better model to teach Rico? Top that off with Rico's size and ball skills. I'm not saying he's going to light it up but that combination will only get him better and hopefully our defensive backs more acclimated to how they can cover these new era TEs.

Shouldn't be surprised. Jones is vastly overrated. Up till now he's gotten a pass for being better than all the stiffs surrounding him in the secondary these past few years
Pretty funny....fans will argue fervently that our pass rush is holding the team back....then bag on the Secondary in the next breath. Kind of hard to do this and be internally consistent.

Also who here is vastly overrating Jones? He's been a bit of a punching bag for the last 18 months.

One excerpt about one play in which our offense made a good play and suddenly this is reason for dismay?

Not sure why people are so down on Jones.

Considering that Jones has done well against some pretty good tight ends when he has been matched up with him in regular-season games, I think Rico can feel pretty good when he beats him in those kind of matchups.

I'm not sure why some are down on Jones, either. Maybe they are expecting more from him than they should.

I'm not "down" on him, but I'm looking for him to take that next step this year and truly establish himself and prove he was worth that first round pick.

I feel the same. However, I was never high as many people on here when he was drafted. I watched film on him and while he blows up the combine, his tape didn't do those numbers justice. Hope is he finally shows up because if his athletic numbers were the determining factor, he'd be an all-pro right now. With our revamped defense I can see him breaking out but I have my reservations since he does come up short more often that not.

For Dez being paid like a top WR, he isn't producing like other top WRs. I do not find that leading by example. Or maybe Dez just isn't a top WR and just masqueraded as one so he could get paid like one.
