When they let Cooper and Wilson and Turner and Jarwin go, his price went up with each departure because he and his agent know there are only two receivers with any history with the QB.

Next, they play the game of pitting McKeon and Ferguson up against him and if that doesn't work, the price goes up.

Anyone making Schultz out to be the bad guy in this hasn't been paying attention to the mismanagement of this team with salaries. He's doing exactly what we would do, max out his money while he can with the salaries for receivers climbing.

Schultz is acting up with hopes of persuading Jerry to pay Schultz like a top 3 TE. That's not going to happen. Hope Jerry & Stephen stay firm and refuse to overpay for Schultz's services.

The Top 3 TE pay:

1) Kittle: $15 mil
2) Kelce: $14.3 mil
3) Goedert: $14.25 mil

No way Schultz is worth Top 3 pay. Offer him between $10 - $12 mil. If he refuses, let him go after this season.

I don't even they should pay him 10-12. If they had a special player at TE, I would say they should pay him, but I don't think he tips the scale to warrant it.

You can run an offense with 2 good TE and make plays for them both. Or you can run an offense with an average pass catching TE that is not as good as Schutlz and get a player like pollard more touches.

Another blown negotiation by Stephen. They should have resigned Shutlz prior to letting Cooper go. All they did was give Shultz tons of leverage after they let Cooper go. That also would have been before Cleveland resigned their TE to a really dumb contract.

Really plenty of time before that July deadline ... if they were really serious about a certain set price then they should've told him
when FA market opened take it or leave, and draft or sign more than one TE.

- But either we totally panicked in tagging Schultz, in fear of losing him in immediate FA, before we drafted a hopeful replacement in Jake Ferguson, ..
Or the franchise tag is simply a ploy to stretch out his services for a one year rental, while closely observing rookie TE Ferguson.

- I've heard they also liked McKeon as well, but maybe he is thought more in the mold of former Cowboys TE Geoff Swaim a decent in-line blocker.

- Schultz's camp looking for that A-tier long term big contract ,..while Jones prefer a B-tier like contract. One that is cap friendly structure that includes a opt-out clause

Now, whether Dallas should pay him $10-$12 million is a different story. It may be his market value, but I'm for continuing to look for the next Witten, Novacek or Dupree rather than tying ourselves to a lesser option. Hopefully, if we keep him on the tag, either he takes the next step forward or Ferguson proves to be an adequate enough replacement that we're not forced to commit second- or third-tier money to Schultz.

You said it much better then I did. Jones has completely bumbles this negotiation from the start. They should have resigned Shultz in the offseason before they cut times with Cooper and the others.

And whether fans like it or not, TE's that put up those kind of receiving numbers get 10 million plus in the NFL. Its almost cheaper to get a great TE, then a very good WR.

Whether you like it or not, Schultz led the Cowboys in TD receptions last year. And he was top 5 in passing catching among all TE's in the NFL. For better or worse.

It's a very brutal way to do business using up guys short NFL life spans without big signing bonuses or future guarantees but was just goofy on a QB of Dak's age. --even after major injury you had to pay the freight... should have saved a fortune.

DLaw was a bit more understandable because of his injury history but it also bit SJ in the butt.

And it explains why Zeke was willing to hold out so early to get his jack while he still had shoulders and knees.

I don't think there is another step for him. I think he is pretty good. Or I think he is pretty good in the role the cowboys have for him, and is most likely worth that money. I personally would not spend the money on him. What I was trying to say, is that if he is not abnormally good, I would rather the money go elsewhere, and find someone else to replace him. Even if what they find is not quite as good, until they find a TE who is of better or equal quality, they should tweak the offense, and make up those yards some other way.

He’s already getting 10 and he will get 12-14 next year
You can’t have everyone on a second contract so I don’t think they want to extend him unless it’s a steal and that’s not likely to happen
I don’t think he’s acting up at all. He’s been to every workout he’s required to be at. He’s just like anyone else on any job, he wants to get paid market rate and I don’t blame him
I think we took a TE this year and will take another next year in part so they can move on from Schultz
Not because they don’t want to keep him but you can’t keep everyone

I don’t think they want to get a long term deal done with Schultz. I think this tag business was just to buy them time to develop a replacement or two.
