because of Schultz's durability and the scheme and way he is used vs zones and play action roll outs, dump offs, i can easily see Schultz repeating that same catch total numbers.

But a one year deal for Schultz's services works out great as I'd like to have a superlative TE replacement that offers much more than a zone TE.

All eyes on rookie Ferguson if he can show any glimpses of being as such.
plus adding another TE No.1 or No.2 in next year's TE draft class, isn't out of the question either.

Smart move. I just wouldn’t extend him unless he has another outstanding season.

Smart would be having the ability to gauge whether he can have another season like that. And getting it right. And signing him now if he will.

Because if he does have another season like that or better, then he will be even more expensive.

Personally, I think he has another great season and possibly even better with Cooper gone.

Agree. Maybe it's a sign Jerry finally gets it. He's done that with countless players only to get pooped on. Remember Miles Austin? Had that one great season & Jerry gave him a mega deal the following year only to see Austin crumble back to reality.

And where do you find one of those and how much to you think one of those will cost?

TE is a position where the top guys are paid lower on average then WR's. Its better business to sign a good TE.

It all depends on what Shultz is demanding. Do you even know to say its smart or dumb?

If Shultz wants 10 million a year, its dumb we havent signed him. If its 15 million per year, then I definitely agree its smart to wait.

Same way a TE needy team does - you draft one, and you cannot be afraid of the draft, and you cannot force serviceable, scheme related players hold you
hostage. You believe in your player personnel team.

I am not in the room or know Schultz agent. But I can almost 100% guarantee you that David Njokus 4 year, $56 million dollar deal is the starting point and only going up. Njoku hasn’t had a season close to what Schultz had last season and just cashed in.

Dak got franchise tagged TWICE. Dak stayed put. He didn't leave to another team or even consider it. Dak stayed loyal to the Cowboys, showed his abilities on the field, and ultimately, got handsomely rewarded for his loyalty and dedication.

We're soon going to find out how much Dalton Schultz truly wants to remain a Cowboy.
