Last season
Same way a TE needy team does - you draft one, and you cannot be afraid of the draft, and you cannot force serviceable, scheme related players hold you
hostage. You believe in your player personnel team.
I am not in the room or know Schultz agent. But I can almost 100% guarantee you that David Njokus 4 year, $56 million dollar deal is the starting point and only going up. Njoku hasn’t had a season close to what Schultz had last season and just cashed in.
Well. He can’t block for 1. You wanna pay a TE that can’t block or even get in the way of someone 10 million plus a year? Or draft someone that can do it all?How do you figure that one?
Poof a top 5 pass catching TE that is the security blanket of your QB. LOL
We did draft Shultz. You know what a 2nd contract is right?
Do you know how many TE's we went through from Witten to Shultz?
Why not just pay him the going rate? You know the player, he has your QB's confidence, the risk is low.
Now if he wants more than the going rate then thats another subject.

Its apparent he’s asking for more annually than the tag. Or the deal would be done already. You ready to pay Schultz 12 million a year or more?
And we'll draft another TE if we have to, as we did Schultz.
We'll leave it up to the McClay player personnel group who scouted/selected Schultz.
Schultz was an underneath security blanket vs zone coverages, and play action roll outs, the scheme and design made him better
than what he is. He's a product of the system.
We didn't have to go thru many TEs because of Witten's longetivity, And Witten was a different, much bigger impact than a Schultz.
I could live with that.NO I agree his blocking is an issue, but pass catching TE's dont get paid to block. Kelsy cant block to save his life either. Neither could Shannon Sharp.
And if you look at the market for top pass catching TE's 10 million is a good price.
I agree he is probably asking for more than 10, but it could be the years.
I think I pay him 12 if its for 3 years with an out after the 2nd year.
Zeke held out with 2 years left on his deal. He didnt even get to the point of being able to tag him.
Dak got franchise tagged TWICE. Dak stayed put. He didn't leave to another team or even consider it. Dak stayed loyal to the Cowboys, showed his abilities on the field, and ultimately, got handsomely rewarded for his loyalty and dedication.
We're soon going to find out how much Dalton Schultz truly wants to remain a Cowboy.
Agreed, but keep an eye on rookie TE Jake Ferguson. He has the tools to become both a good pass catching and blocking TE.Its his ability to get open and catch everything that makes him so good.
If you think we just draft another Shultz your kidding yourself. How many TE's did we draft from Witten to Shultz?
Although I freely admit that Garrett blew the Cowboys career of half of them.
IIRC, the Cowboys placed Prescott under the "Exclusive Tag" designation. That meant while no contract was worked out between the two parties before the deadline in 2020 - no other team had the opportunity to negotiate a deal with Prescott.Dak got franchise tagged TWICE. Aaaah, good correction. Interesting to see which tag the Cowboys placed on Shultz indeed.IIRC, the Cowboys placed Prescott under the "Exclusive Tag" designation. It wasn't a matter that 'Dak stayed loyal to the Cowboys' ---- the exclusive franchise tag prevented Prescott to "test the waters", i.e. ,any other team interested in the QB could not contact him or his agent at all and propose a deal.
I don't know which tag Schultz was placed under by Dallas.
After doing some research, the internet says the Cowboys did not specify which tag (exclusive or non-exclusive) they placed on Dalton Schultz.IIRC, the Cowboys placed Prescott under the "Exclusive Tag" designation. America's Cowboy - this is my conjecture.Aaaah, good correction. Interesting to see which tag the Cowboys placed on Shultz indeed.
VERY INTERESTING - Jones & Jones fenagling the tag guidelines (with or without Schutlz in on it?)After doing some research, the internet says the Cowboys did not specify which tag (exclusive or non-exclusive) they placed on Dalton Schultz.
I wonder why the Cowboys have refused up to now to state which tag they placed on Schultz?
Is that legal?
