1st in 3rd Down Conversion.. 7th in scoring.. 4th in Passing..

And yet somehow we’re 4-3 with no real identity and lost to the stinkin’ Jets. Someone explain pls. Thanks.

We’ve got an identity. We lost two games to good teams because we didn’t take care of the football, and we didn’t take it away enough.

Explanation — Jason Garrett. Dude is like a twilight zone flick. You just cannot explain how he sets these random records

Jason Garrett and his ragtag team of Defensive Coordinators (Rod Marinelli and Kris Richard) is all the explaining you need.

This is right, for people who are generally clueless.

We are currently 13th in the league in penalty yardage, having played 7 games (5 teams that have played 8 games, 7 teams that have played 9 games ahead of us).

Also, before the Eagles game, we hadn't started a possession passed in enemy territory. We've had one of the worst starting field position per drive, which has led to more yards.

Lastly, we have had slow starts and have been in catch up mode against GB & NYJ.

These 3 factors have led to massive yardage.

It would have been even better had Garrett not shanghaied Moore for 3 games.

Weird thing is, that's not entirely true.

Defensive yards allowed - 9th

3rd down conversion percentage allowed by the defense - 2nd (only trail NE)

Defensive penalties - 2nd (only the Saints have fewer, despite the Conspiracy)

Put those together with the offensive numbers and you have to work really hard to lose 3 times in 7 games, but our Cowboys found a way.

no real identity is not an accurate representation of this team...

this team doesn't play complementary football..when it does, its a very good team (see eagles game)...however, when it doesn't play complementary football (see just about all of the other games) - the onus is on the offense to be great..

By advanced measures, the offense is good.

By advanced measures, the defense is mediocre to bad. Football Outsiders, for example, has the O #1 and the defense #19.

In two of our losses - Packers and Jets - the defense crapped the bed for much of both games. Sure, the offense started slow, which didn't help, but the offense eventually found some momentum in those games.

That's actually one of the things that makes football interesting. The numbers can be there, but other things don't line up that it takes to win games. I keep thinking about the "swing" against the Jets where we had driven down the field and could have cut the lead to 7-6 with a field goal. Going for it, missing and then having the Jets hit the big play for the TD was a 10-point swing. Those things are hard to overcome, even against bad teams.

Giants, Commanders, and Dolphins will do that for you. And look who's up tonight!

The Boys offensive woes this season has come at their own hands, no D has really shut them down although the Aints did pretty well. Dak has shown tremendous growth as a passer, Coop is still dominating his match ups, and Ewok is our grinder. For the Boys offense, the key is to do as they did in week one. They need to attack this struggling Gnats secondary and pile on the points until the opponent submits.

If the Boys get a lead early, their D will be able to put pressure on Jones, which will lead to insurmountable mistakes. Fresh off the bye, our Boys need to take charge of this division, starting with a win on the road to bring Wentzie & his Philthy fans back down to earth after winning two straight.

Week to week league.

Add in the Garrett as HC factor, and every game is typically filled with drama.
