Mac Engel, of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, reports the Dallas Cowboys have offered free agent OT Marc Colombo (Cowboys) a two-year contract worth about $7 million.

sorry if this is just a repost but it's pretty recent from kffl.com

Mickey said today on the RR, they'd even tear up the second year if he'd just prove 2006 wasn't a fluke. He's not getting more elsewhere so IMO he'll sign soon. If he starts all 16 games again we'll have to think about giving him a longer term deal.

that makes the most sense as 5 years is what would be the best deal for him, but noone is going to give him that

have the chance to hit free agency again when you're well in your prime, and after you prove the knee isn't an issue, and you string 2 consecutive, even 3, good years together, plus he has to know after seeing the re-signing of Columbo, that Dallas is pretty good at taking care of their performers

Me, too. The longer this drags on, the more likely he'll come back. It's not like salaries are going up from here on out.

Jerry's no skinflint and certainly as loyal as any of these modern owners. Colombo is really lucky he came this way. If he stays healthy and plays well again i'm betting he'll be a Cowboy for several years and get paid well in the process.

Maybe they should add some incentive that if he does good he gets a longer deal..

LIke i said earlier, Mickey claims they have already told him he'll get a better deal if he does in 2007 what he did in 2006. It's not about the cash with Jerry. He just doesn't want another Rivera/Rogers/Peterman to deal with.

Someone, on this very board, told me that was the risk you take. My stance is, he's been burned before, especially last year, and doesn't want it to happen again. Me thinks I may have been on to something. ;)

True....hopefully, JJ told Colombo, go get a higher offer and we will match it! Obviously, the rest of the league has the same concerns about how long he will be injury free and if he can duplicate this year.

Sooner or later, I hope Columbo sees that Dallas is the best place he can be. He is almost guaranteed a starting job, has the opportunity to show he can stay healthy by being a starter, and get a better contract next year.

That and he is with a playoff contending team. Getting to the SB gives you a very nice bonus!

Sign up Colombo!

Your kidding, right? These other teams don"t know what is BEING OFFERED to all these guys? You realize this is a very small world right? 32 teams/owners/GMs , less than 2 thousand players and agents, TOTAL. Everyone knows everything. The Skins and GIANTS knew to the PENNY what we were offering Davis. It plays no role in what Colombo will or won't receive.
