Cowboys officially make offer to Colombo

Is it just me or is KFFL really behind the time line here? Everyone else knew this 3-4 days ago.

The hostage crisis is nearly over.

I wonder if, when we sign him for a VERY reasonable contract, to allow him to keep proving he's "back", if all those who jumped off on this issue will realize ow masterfully our front office handled this?

They let him look around, they let him see what was out there, and let the market set his value before they made a definitive offer.

I don't know why the Cowboys wouldn't give him a bonus if he starts all year and tell him they would re-do his contract then if it works out. I don't see what they have to loose by doing that.

Actually, this is an update. They are now offering him 2 years at $7M plus three gumballs and a tick tack.

If Colombo wants a longer contract then give him a 5 year deal for the same 7mill. LOL

I just received insider information that the Cowboys have offered Colombo a 2-year deal for $7 mil.

I'm the new Board King. :)

No...I am.

I just recieved word that the Cowboys offered Colombo a one year deal for 3.5 million with the option of a second year at 3.5 million. :D

Mickey said today on the RR, they'd even tear up the second year if he'd just prove 2006 wasn't a fluke. He's not getting more elsewhere so IMO he'll sign soon. If he starts all 16 games again we'll have to think about giving him a longer term deal.

Then offer him a 1 year deal with $3.5M with a second year player option at $3.5M. This comes out to the same deal, but he can decline the option and resign for a bigger contract if that (if he plays a full 16 game season) actually is the case.

Curses! Foiled again!

I think the Cowboys did the right thing here. I'm in favor of giving him a 2 year deal for 7 million. The question here is the amount of the signing bonus. I mean, if your offering 7 million with 1 million as bonus, thats not as strong as say 2 years of 6.5 million with 1.5 signing bonus. We don't know that part of the equation and thats really what players are looking at.

Hey, does anyone know what sort of offer we made to Colombo? :D

I've already said this. Three gumballs and a tick tack. (he really needed the tick tack)

yeah i was afraid it was just another dallas beat writer repeating the news from two days ago...but that would never happen right??? lol

For me there is a difference between something Mickey writes in his column or an offical statement by the Cowboys. Too me there comes much more "weight" with an official anouncement. Therefore i guess they are really near to complete a deal. The Cowboys organisation wouldn't make such a statement if they didn't think the same way.

So thanks for your information!

I am really looking forward for the Cowboys to sign Colombo. Even with him we are thin at OL regarding our Backups. Right now i am a little worried about that. We really have to treat Backups carefully. They are a big part of our team. Bill Parcells really left some good work behind in that regard. He signed good players in their "prime" (most where about 25-26 years old), build a good foundation and brought us out of cap hell, we were in before he arrived.
We lost some players (Backup Center for example) and i am worried about that. A good team has to be sound at every position - not great only at a ferw spots. I hope JJ doesn't fall back into habbits before Parcells (sign big names to big contracts and forget about the rest of the team). BP made a really good job in that area and i hope the Cowboys organisation learned from that.

To me his value as a teammate and enforcer is very high. I want those kinds of people on my team who will put themselves out to help his team. I think Colombo paid his dues with his salary already last year. You can see I like Colombo.

Mickey: Yep, sure can, and know the Cowboys like Colombo, too. That is why they have offered him the two-year, $7 million deal, and with $5 million in signing bonus and base salary stuffed into the first year. That is why they've told him, you come back and do in 2007 what you did last year and we'll be ripping up the second year and signing you to a long-term deal. That is why they have patiently left the offer on the table, not seeming to mind his agent shopping around the deal. Just remember, with a guy who basically has played - started - one full season in the NFL, you don't want to become hasty signing him to a long-term deal. You need a little more proof than that.

Someone, on this very board, told me that was the risk you take. My stance is, he's been burned before, especially last year, and doesn't want it to happen again. Me thinks I may have been on to something. ;)

Or maybe just ON something.......J/K...couldn't resist. :lmao2:

thanks for postin WG

I'm guessing that the lame deal Jordan Black just signed (2 years 3.5 mill overall) doesn't help Colombo's cause
