Technically, Ware finished first in the NFL with 17 sacks. But, he gets no credit for two forced intentional groundings and a sack that was taken away unnecessarily against GB.

He also finished second in the NFL in negative plays (sacks, stuffs) with 23.

What's it going to be then, eh?

This is true...Harvey was a TERROR as a pass-rusher and while he had a big heart OFF the field, he would rip your head off ON the field. Randy White gets probably more accolades as he was the "Manster" but never forget, Harvey was "too mean" for a reason. One of my all-time favorite Cowboys.

A man that ugly had to be mean.

Ware's been solid all year long. I just wish that he'd rush the passer inside every now and then instead of trying to get by his blocker on the outside every single time...especially against pocket QB's. Make them feel and see the pressure so that they get nervous and have to react to it. If he comes from behind all the time, sure, he may get to the QB pretty often, but when he doesn't he doesn't affect the QB's rhythm at all.
Go full speed outside then swim inside. Not a lot of offensive tackles would have feet quick enough to consistently be able to hang with that.

The guy is still young, give him time.. When he's around 29/30, look out!

It would be nice, but statistically, Jared Allen trumps him in almost every stat. I didn't realize a DE could do that.

Huh? Ware has more tackles for losses, overall tackles and more forced fumbles... What are you talking about?

I seem to recall that someone on the 60s team had 20+ but I am not sure- might have been Lilly. Its hard to believe that that stat was not kept untill the early 80s.

pretty sure it was George Andre

My money is on Bob Sanders. There is a love affair with him in the media right now. While many people on this board discredit him, (foolishly in my opinion) the guy is a playmaker and solidifies the Colts defense and that was abundantly clear last year when the Colts defense was roadkill until he returned and they won the Superbowl. He is perfect at safety? No, but even Ware get caught out of place sometimes. (several times in the Washington game)

My opinion? Ware should be DPoY, but I feel it's going to be given to Sanders.

yep, i agree with all of that.. i did some googling last night for "defensive player of the year" and i got a few articles written by guys who vote for these things and almost all of them had Sanders as their #1 choice and Ware as their #2 choice.. now, it might have just been a small sampling (probably about 5 voters), but it is indicative of the media's love affair for Sanders.. i do think Ware should win it, but it's looking to me like it's gonna be Sanders and then Ware..

Dark horse vote for Sean Taylor? I could see that going down, not because it's deserved, but you know, the gesture and all.

Ware is by far the scariest name on that list to opposing offenses. Or am I biased?

While Samuels is a ProBowler and a great one at that, they still placed him on Ware one-on-one and he did a damn good job considering he was one-on-one. I don't think you *consistently* play the so-called scarest defensive player one-on-one when he is pass rushing even with a player of Samuels caliber. So, I guess not everyone believes that.

Ware has been played one-on-one quite a bit this year and while he played well, he was many times always a second late to actually make the sack. I think that will start to change though. Without question, he is getting better and better.

Before sacks were an official NFL stat, someone on the 70's teams had 20 I believe.

Deacon Jones claims he still has more sacks thean anyone, ever...
And I wouldn't doubt him either.

Harvey Martin had 23 sacks (more than Strahan's 22.5 NFL record) I believe the year before they started counting sacks.

Before they stared counting sacks, some guy had like 20 sacks in 1 game. I saw it on NFLN.
