Cowboys Only Team Without an Interception

Oddly, I thought I remember Woods being a ballhawk in college.

It's gonna get worse the further the season goes. Once a defense gets this type of reputation, it's hard to shake it. Just look at how confident Stafford and the Lions WRs were. They were slinging it and making tough catches because they know our defense can't make any plays on the ball.

Anyone see Richard climb in Browns behind. He was mad.

I was disappointed in our Defensive performance yesterday. We made a few plays but didn’t have consistent pressure. Allowed there qb to make some big plays. And poor Chido got picked on. A few of those plays you couldn’t cover any better, was just a good pass and catch.

Maybe we should just pull the trigger and make that trade for ET...oh, wait, never mind....

Well we tried to play a more zone based defense to keep plays in front of players to drive up ints. That didn't work so they switch back to man defense which typically generate less ints.

Because Brown screw up big. How do you allow that completion. It was like 2nd and +20. That one play put the Lions on the score board on game they should have been blown out of.

I think the philosophy has all guys in zone or man focused on preventing completions if at all possible. No gambling on jumping a route unless it is a sure pick six. No giving up the big play, don't trust that you have help. Its a Marinelli thing I think. That's why big body possession recievers are the only ones who consistently are targeted like Gallimore and Funchess were...the only time anyone was burned that I can remember was when Lockett got behind Chido...

..its looking more and more, that Int's come as much as a player's talent lets them exist. Our Db's most of the time have their heads and backs turned while ball is in the air. So they are making a play on player not the ball.

How much of this is because we have a ****** like Jerry as the GM? Just looks the progression of players we have taken in some drafts to address the safety position and the couple that with the coaching staff Jerry has assembled since Parcells left.

I’m surprised by the lack of picks after a training camp when we were getting them in bunches.

I put it down to 2 things:
1. Lack of great safeties
2. Luck

A lot of interceptions are due to batted balls and poor throws. We’ll see our share as the season moves along.

We just don't get ballhawks or even guys who are good at ripping the ball out. I blame this on Marinelli, this is his defense.

Terrible saftey play, then throw in corners with bricks for hands

Brick hands? Pfft, we're lucky these corners even get a hand on the ball. They're still searching for the ball 5 minutes after the reception happens.

The back seven are coached by Richard...and the scheme/system used is Richard’s system.

Pretty funny that you want to criticize the Cowboys for not ripping the ball out! Dallas was #1 in NFL in forced fumbles last year!!!!

So your blame game post is 0-2.

It’s really strange considering how much pressure and how many sacks we get.

Teams typically throw more picks when they are down double digits and desperate. We have a tendency to have close conservative games. Aside from that we don’t have a ballhawk FS yet...

Except we have how many takeaways this year? Nobody except you is discussing last year in this thread. Nice deflection, didn't work.

I don't think it's as black and white with the interceptions as 'you suck or you don't'

case in point: the Jags have the #1 defense in the league (Cowboys 5th) and are #1 vs the pass (Cowboys are 6th)
the Jaguars have great corners and very solid safeties, know how many interceptions they have this year?
1

the big difference is in completion rate
of course opponents matter too but just saying... ints don't tell the whole story

what my eyes tell me is that Byron is playing really well and so is Chido as far as being on his guy. what I don't understand is why are they being taught to bat the ball away as the receiver reacts instead of turning to look for the ball?
Chido had some tight coverage (obviously not good enough) but there are good players throughout the league
there have been some big busted plays (vs Seattle too) and that happens but our safeties need to be better and contesting these deep throws/broken tackles
