Cowboys Over-Performed?

The Cowboys 2018 roster was 1 of the most talented versions since about 1996. Definitely top 3 in that span, if not #1.

It was in areas. But some of the big areas, the talent is average at best. Back up center, Rookie LG, QB, WR (to start the season), TE And Safety all come to mind. We have a great LT and RG, an above average DL and great LB and above average Corners.

So I would not put the team that took the field the first game of the season as better than the 07, 09, 14 or 16 teams.

The article in a nutshell says , because of the way the team played, (performance ) they're lucky to win 10, first that's b's to start. What I'm saying is regardless of performance, or how they played, they won 10 games. That's a good coaching job, to get those win.
As far as next year , there's no reason to address it because this year's team has nothing to do with next year's team and how they'll play.

You still haven’t grasped the point of the article.

And what’s funny is you criticize the article for saying that 10 wins outstripped where their win total should have been given their stats but then turn around and use the article’s claim they should have won only around 8 games as the benchmark to then say garrett did a good job because he won 10.

And yes, how they played is important as well. It’s foolish to suggest otherwise.

You are incorrigible.

I think you missed your meds today. Check with your nurse. Let me try to educate you. Rosters turnover across the league. Average career is about 3 years so you do the math. Did KC effect a smooth transition? Did Baltimore? How about the Texans? Did Philly even have another era? Garrett has been there 9 years. 2 playoff wins. If you want to compare to Miami or Cleveland that’s a success. Should not the goal be elite. Those are facts not narrative. Remember the meds.
The only fair comparison with Garrett is previous HC in Jerry’s puppet era.

And does it make you feel like a Big strong internet bully to insult and attack me personally ? Up urs

Yeah I blame losing on execution, and it is i also say winning is execution and ultimately players, in this case of for all the blaming of the coach for losing and then don't give the credit for winning is asinine. You same poster that cry about coach when it's bad, don't give any credit win it's good.

This is kind of BS. You always want Garrett to get credit for the wins but in losses you shift any responsibility away from Garrett. You’re not being honest if you say otherwise.

The article's point is that this team wasn't as good as people thought and could revert to non-playoff status next year. The analysis shows that the team likely played like an 8 win team and essentially just got lucky.

Not exactly sure how this is a "positive" article for Garrett. In fact, it likely speaks to the opposite.
Every team gets lucky.

lets quantify "over-performed." and what that meant for the 2018 Cowboys. Its tale of 3 seasons in one really. Answer would be NO,YES,NO. No...we underperformed for 8 weeks, then over performed if you will, the next 8 weeks, then played below what we could have...even against Seattle. It reared its head and got exposed against a great team like the Rams.

That "mistake" resulted in Leighton Vander Esch.

Dallas' first round picks in recent years are basically:
  • Tyron Smith
  • Byron Jones
  • Travis Frederick
  • Zack Martin
  • Zeke Elliott
  • Taco Charlton
  • Leighton Vander Esch
Then throw in La'el Collins, Jaylon Smith, Chido Awuzie, Michael Gallup, and a 4th-rounder on Dak Prescott....and you simply can't argue with the talent acquisition in recent years.
Yep.. if only we’d used one for a QB.

No you said 8, I never once used anything about the article, if you paid attention, I said the article is bs. Not once did I say what they should win.

He gets credit for wins but ultimately the outcome is determined on the field by the players whether that's wins or losses. Nothing has changed in my stance . He's going to get credited for wins and losses by default. That still doesn't change who's ultimately responsible for either. Just as a qb is going to charged an int. no matter what.

We as Cowboys fans know that a lot of our close games were not as close as the final score would indicate.....because we watched the games. Late scores on the defense ect.

Close Cowboys games...

We were losing to the Lions 24-23 until a field goal with no time left gave us a 26-24 win.
We were losing to the Commanders 20-10 before a TD with 1 minute left to make the final score 20-17 Still a loss, but we pulled it within 7 with a late score.
We were tied with the Falcons 19-19 until we kick a field goal with no time left to win 22-19.
Tied with the Eagles 20-20 until A TD gave us the win with 3 minutes left.
The Saints game was 13-10 midway through the 3rd quarter and neither team scored late.
2nd game with Eagles we won 29-23 with a TD in OT.
Were losing to the Giants 28-35 before a TD and 2 point conversion with 1 minute left gave us a 36-35 win.
Lost to the Texans by 3 in OT.

I am not a negative Cowboy fan, but that is 8 of the 10 games that were within 7 points (and 6 of the 8 wins). I fail to see these late second scores, etc. we gave up "a lot". I am just wondering what in the blue moon games you were watching?

I read the article as if I actually knew the facts as a Cowboys fan.

Welcome to the wonderful world of confirmation bias...

Confirmation bias, the tendency to process information by looking for, or interpreting, information that is consistent with one’s existing beliefs. This biased approach to decision making is largely unintentional and often results in ignoring inconsistent information. Existing beliefs can include one’s expectations in a given situation and predictions about a particular outcome. People are especially likely to process information to support their own beliefs when the issue is highly important or self-relevant.

At some level, yes.

No better example than last year’s Eagles team that got some really freaky breaks down the stretch, such as a Falcons safety punting a sure fire interception (and likely 3 points right before the half) with his knee into the arms of an Eagles WR.

But that doesn’t change the overall point of the article. The Cowboys outstripped where their stats indicated where they should have finished.

The "mistake" I'm talking about was them entering 2018 thinking their receiving corps was adequate.
They tried with Sammy Watkins. Thank God that didn't work out.

Then picked Vander Esch over Ridley. Right choice.

This year they drafted Amari Cooper.

Lucky and good.

Again, you are skirting the truth. Earlier in his thread you said Garrett won more games than the team was supposed to win therefore he should get credit.

It doesn’t matter if you believed 8 wins was our norm or not, you want Garrett to get credit based on the premise of this article that the team won more games than bey should have.

Except you don’t really post like that. You are quick to get on people for not giving Garrett his due after wins but when someone points out the flaws in a loss, you are quick to blame the players or execution.

And by the way, at the end of the day, the HC is responsible for execution. Hence why the better teams with better coaches execute mkre consistently than mediocre and bad teams.

Unless you think it’s just dumb luck.

So over a span of 10 years, it's been everybody's fault but Garrett's, despite the fact that he's had a chance to overturn the whole roster, including coaching on both offense and defense.

I am big and strong that’s for sure. It was you who fired the first shot. Btw it’s “yours”. If you are going to cuss at me get it right. Sad thing is I think you and I are in the same page with Jerry. Go get yourself a Snickers.

There's no skirting you can't read, I said they weren't suppose to win according to the article, my whole argument was based on what the article said. Read a little better
