Didn't we do something like this with D Law? Well, that worked out well I guess
I like this. Their advanced stats just gets dismissed out of hand. You then give the most basic stat block imaginable and think that sits well with this earlier argument against stats. What the heck is he talking about? This is the thing with these stat geeks. They get seduced by these numbers that don't mean anything.
You know what does mean something? Actual production. Nobody reading this can claim he's a good run defender at 285 lbs. He's one of the reasons why the line of scrimmage moves in our direction at the snap of the ball on run downs.
So if he isn't defending the run then he damn sure should be a dynamite productive pass rusher to warrant a ridiculous 20-25 million a year salary.
3.5 sacks, 7 TFLs. That's what he's given you per season over his 4 year career. And not a natural upward progression either. He's been rather consistent. It is who he is.
That is mediocre at best pass rush production for a starting 3 tech. Combined with the aforementioned poor run defense with his undersized frame.
Seeing any value in handing that kind of player a franchise tag or even a long term deal that pays him anywhere near 20 million a year is insanity. You move on. You only pay that kind of money to actual productive players. Not PFF stat geek win rates and seconds to pressure but real plays being made.
OSA playing on the tag is dumb for a variety of reasons I agree. The better route to go is to reach a longer extension, but people are too caught up in the AAV. DT contracts are not that bad for the most part because the guaranteed money isnt that bad on them. Even Chris Jones sitting at the top got 60% guaranteed, just 37% as signing. If OSA really wants to play hardball and is pushing for more than that, then I would agree....let him test FA and potentially move on. If they can get him at a 5/$110 type of deal ($38 at signing, 65 gtd overall) it would be a fairly backloaded cap hit that they could get out of pretty easily after a couple years.Franchise tag is 25 million
Osa is absolutely not worth anything like that
Any sensible GM would move on but we are stuck with idiot and son
I actually applaud the move......It's a one year deal to buy us time. Look @ the alternative. It's better than chaining yourself to a contract in the range of 4 years 100 million....then have the guy start loafing like Diggs......then your stuck w/ a contract w/ 3 years left...and probably 50 to 60 million in dead money. No negotiationing skills, lose almost every deal. Congrats Osa on getting paid, majorly.
OK then lets just pay him based off of sacks and ignore the deeper data. If you enjoy going off the counting stats though you should love a guy named Dak Prescott...Anyways OSA was roughly 10th in sacks from DTs last year...could be as low as 14th (just depends on what you consider 3-4 guys like Zach Allen and Madubuike). What the heck is he talking about? It doesn't stop them from signing other players. If the front office does this we ain't going to do anything in free agency. No coach can win like this.
They actually can still sign him to a contract before the tag starts.I actually applaud the move......It's a one year deal to buy us time. Look @ the alternative. Think people.....this is the right move. He's gonna have to ball his *** off this year to get the bag.
He's gonna be motivated.....Or we can still trade him. Hell....It's better than letting him walk away for nothing...and getting a 5th round comp pick in 2 years.
I prefer a one-year deal and try to draft his replacement. If we tag him and don't take a DT before the third round, then it was a poor move IMO. But if we tag him and draft a DT in the first or second to try to improve the DT rotation, I'm OK with that.I actually applaud the move......It's a one year deal to buy us time. Yeah, right. Three absolute spares maybe. We can go sign 3 defensive tackles for that Price
A franchise tag is a one year deal that doesn’t have to be negotiated.I prefer a one-year deal and try to draft his replacement. We should just stop contract discussions and let him walk, right?Absolute madness.
Osa Odighizuwa. Franchise tag player.
We are a joke, trash organization.
Right. I was counting the tag as the one-year deal, not saying we should get him to sign a one-year deal that's not a tag. Frankly, I still would transition tag him instead and save about $4 million. The risk, of course, is that some team gives him a big deal that you don't want to match, but it isn't likely because they know that you can match the deal and would rather focus on DTs that are free to negotiate without that obstacle. Plus, it establishes his market.A franchise tag is a one year deal that doesn’t have to be negotiated.
OSA, or any other player in his position, is not going to risk injury on a one year deal. It would he foolish of him and his agent to even consider it.
Yup, but there's still one member here who will say we should sign him at any price. They're literally investing 25 million of cap space this year to ensure we have the same DT tandem that gets bullied on the field every week.
Just colossal morons.
Signing him at market or a little lower than market value is a good idea.Yup, but there's still one member here who will say we should sign him at any price.
