If Howell gets claimed off waivers he will have to go on another team's 53. That's a significant pay raise from being on the PS so he'd be silly to agree to stay here in that scenario.

Sam Howell is a vested veteran and is not subject to waivers.

If released, Howell will immediately become an unrestricted free agent free to sign with any team.

Howell also has a guaranteed $2.5M one year contract with the Dallas Cowboys.

Sam's getting that money if on our 53, our Practice Squad (teams can pay over the minimum if they want) or with another team.

If Howell likes his situation in Dallas and wants to help the team with some early roster gymnastics, we might see him get released.

Or not.

Punter Bryan Anger and Long Snapper Trent Sieg are two players who may get approached as well.

I will wait to check the cut list until tomorrow morning over coffee. No need to rush; it is what it is. However, before I do that I will check and see if the Cowboys added any players who were cut at the deadline by other teams. Some teams are good at upgrading the rosters with those type players. Other teams not so very good.
