Good Question !!!!!Why not just put Jenkins on IR like Thomas?
I'm not an expert, but I *believe* the reason is that if a player waived due to injury, and the team and the player reached an injury settlement, he can be resigned 6-8 weeks later assuming they clear waivers. If they move the player to IR, the player cannot play again this season. Why not just put Jenkins on IR like Thomas?

The Cowboys have placed defensive lineman Shaneil Jenkins (knee), linebacker James Morris (shoulder) and cornerback Jeremiah McKinnon on waived/injured list. Cornerback Josh Thomas (thumb) was placed on injured reserve.
Little surprised w/ the Josh Thomas move....
Jenkins is a first year rookie. There is no way he can go on IR without exposing him to waivers. Why not just put Jenkins on IR like Thomas?
When a player is injury/waived and goes unclaimed they go to the IR......the team then has 5 days to reach an injury settlement with the player based on how many games they are expected to miss....the player is then free to sign with any team.....after the settled upon time elapses, the player could then sign with the original team after a 3 week period(it used to be 6 weeks)......if an injury settlement isn't reached in 5 days the player reverts to the full IR and is out for the yearI'm not an expert, but I *believe* the reason is that if a player waived due to injury, and the team and the player reached an injury settlement, he can be resigned 6-8 weeks later assuming they clear waivers. I totally agree !!!!!!!!!!!!!!If anyone deserved to go on IR it was Shaneil Jenkins. The Josh Thomas love is peculiar.
