As LVE said in this article, and it is true. If Hurts plays he will still have to alter how he plays.

How many times does he throw the ball, will it effect him.
Also, will he attempt to run as much to avoid talking unnecessary hits. Will he have perceived pressure when none is really there.

I know, bring on the Checkers vs. Chess comments.
I was a very good chess player and i always game planned like I was playing a chess match

Chess? These guys are stumbling through the season with missed opportunities and depending on other teams to help us out. We're Forrest Gump not Bobby Fischer. Ping pong is our game :muttley:

There is no chess game going on here. Both teams were put in a position to do what they had to do. The Eagles had to rest Hurts and play Minshew. Now they are in a must win situation so they will rush Hurts back onto the field. The Cowboys would probably prefer to rest some of their ailing plays, and in fact they are, but they also want to win because there is a chance the Eagles lose.

I don't think Dabol is worried about revenge or payback or anything like that right now. His team is the 6th seed in the playoffs no matter what. He wants to win his playoff game. This week the game means nothing to him and his team. I would not be surprised to see him play Jones and Barkley to start the game and pull them after the 1st quarter. He has other players he will rest as well. Beating the Eagles then losing his first game in the playoffs will get him nothing.

Even so, the Cowboys still have to play their game to win. Perhaps if the Eagles are winning 48-10 or something like that in the 4th quarters McCarthy can pull his starters and give the backups a chance to get some playing time.

I am pretty sure if McCarthy had his way he would prefer the Eagles to play at 1:00pm and the Cowboys to have a late game so he could rest his team if the Eagles were to win.

I give Walker an A for effort in creating a story basically out of nothing to praise McCarthy. LOL. Not a whole lot makes sense under scrutiny but the effort is there. For example, who ever suggested benching starters as far back as Week 16 against Philly? That's the first I heard that it was even a consideration.

Plus Walker left out some key comments from Daboll to the point that the Giants own beat writers started saying it looks like Daboll will bench some starters.

There was no chess here. LOL.

Ideally, for them, Hurts would've sat out the rest of the regular season to fully heal. The Cowboys winning and their flop vs the Saints forced their hand.

Definitely.

But that situation is not totally tied to any decision making McCarthy made. Walker seems to suggest that us pulling starters and resting guys as early as Week 16 was a real possibility but McCarthy, in all his wisdom, played out the season and forced the Eagles to make a decision this weekend.

McCarthy played his guys because we still had a chance, as any freaking HC would do. There was no chess or special wisdom here on the part of McCarthy. LOL.

The only people suggesting to rest starters in week 16, were the fans on here that gave up the season at that point.
But here we are, with a possibility of winning the division.

Exactly.

Which makes this article by Walker bizarre as hell. Walker's point seems to be that McCarthy bucked some sort of movement or common sense decision to bench players starting in Week 16 and in doing so, he played "chess" in forcing the Eagles to have to play starters (including Hurts) in their last game.

But it's a dumb point. Because no coach would have started benching starters in Week 16 if they still had a shot at home field. There's nothing special or brilliant or wise or ingenius here by McCarthy.

Walker is a colossal moron. He was the one who when Amari Cooper was traded to Dallas he said it proves that Stephen Jones ran the team since the report was that Stephen was on the phone with Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie.

The problem with that, and what should be obvious to anyone who wants to be respected as a journalist, is this occurred right after the Gruden hire and all power was given to him. McKenzie was let go later that year by Gruden. He was merely following marching orders from his superior on that phone call just like Stephen was. He had no personnel control at the time.

Secretaries make phone calls not bosses. Patrik "no c" Walker didn't understand that.

I have not missed a Cowboys game in over 40 seasons plus. But I’ll be watching the Giants destroy the Eagles Sunday. Never mind pitcher on pitcher.
40 years huh that's a better run than me I'm at 32 I think?? The last one I missed Cowboys at Packers in 91 when the Cowboys beat them when the game was played in Wisconsin.

Lol. This isn't chess, it's called "the absence of Minshew Magic against the Saints." And if he thinks the Giants are going to go all out to try and beat Philly, it's as good as all the other hope posting around here. Giants will have starters rested as soon as possible. I wouldn't play Barkley at all.

The year the Patriots were undefeated, the Giants played the last game of the season, as a Wild Card. They did not rest any starters and almost beat the Patriots. Why can't they do the same against Philly?

So you made out your lineup and tried to use your bishops and rooks for big plays, and then threw all of the pieces when they got caught?

Because it would be dumb. You lose Barkley or Jones and your best chance for any playoff noise goes out the window. Coughlin was a different kind of coach and probably listened to his players more than he should have but had they lost Eli Manning that game, the Patriots would have finished undefeated. It was a bad risk that turned out great in the end because no one important got hurt. I respected the competitiveness though.

I don't think it's dumb. Resting players does not ensure victories. They are paid to play; maybe the NFL shouldn't have them playing so many games. Besides, the Cowboys have proven that theory to be false. So have the Packers.
