Still, I'd put his 06 mid-season weight around 245.

I agree. I didn't finish editing that post. I think he was waiting until after his workouts to put the weight on. He probably would not have been as fast if weighed in at 250 lbs. I actually think he will weigh 250 lbs by the start of the season. Now that he isn't in track anymore, he should be able to put on more weight.

Which was a good call on his part. Virtually assured him first round status. That shows nice work ethic (at least when the money's calling your name).

Is this currently the best inside linebacker core in the NFL?

No they are not. I think it would be a homer statement to say so

DWARE Akin BJames MLawson

Your saying in a couple of years this combo is not gonna be the best

No, what he is saying is the youth in D. Ware and M. Lawson would keep them from being the best this year.. but with the potential to become the best with experiance.

Those OLB positions are hard to manage. Knowing how to read the plays, knowing when to blitz when a vulnarablity shows itself without blowing a coverage is tough.

I'm still pretty skeptical about Lawson...in the games I saw NC State play the past two seasons (probably 4 or 5) he really didnt stand out much and he played on a loaded NC State defense that has been statistically one of the betetr units the past two yrs...he wasnt anywhere near as dominant as Mario Williams

he's a good player with some eye popping physical numbers, but I wonder if he will ever fill out (he looks rail thin) and has never had to play in reverse on the field, he's also regarded as pretty weak vs the run...some like to compare him to Ware in those aspects, but Ware was alot more fluid than Lawson is now and has a thicker, more muscular frame...Ware was a better football player ON the field that Lawson is as well

if we traded down and got Lawson I wouldnt be unhappy, but if we took him at 18 I think we all might be a little disappointed come next fall because I dont see him transitioning to OLB anywhere near as easy as Ware did last yr, and Ware had alot of growing pains

i am worried about his size and the transition he would have to make to OLB, but i think if we draft him then he will be ok, likewise if we pass then it prolly will turn out to be a good decision.

in summary i beleive in Irelands decision at 18 and whoever we pick i will be behind. Unless if we pick some slob safety out of Tennesee

Yeah, but he only weighed 238 lbs at his proday. I don't think Lawson could have put up his numbers if he weighed 250 lbs. I think he was waiting until after his workouts to put on the necessary weight to play at the next level. I really like Thomas Howard as well. He is even faster than Lawson and weighs the same.

OMG! YOU MEAN HE LOST A WHOPPING 2 POUNDS?!?! OH MY FREAKIN' GOD!

I can gain/lose more then 2 lbs throughout a single day. Gimme a freakin' break.

The "Freak" is a good nickname for Lawson, he was born with 11 fingers. His parents at the advise of a doctor had them put a string around the extra digit early on till it decayed off.

 :donthear:

he wasnt anywhere near as dominant as Mario Williams

Didn't Lawson get voted NCST's MVP on the DL by his teammates? That's gotta count for something.

Lawson would be nice, but I think Carpenter is more the type of OLB we need.

I agree but not at 18. If we could move down a few spots that would be better. In case we do pass on him at 18 and do trade down, stock up on Tums.

If we can find a team about 4-5 spots down that is actually willing to trade to our spot, fine. If not, I have no problem drafting Carpenter at 18. He's worth the pick.

Do you think getting Lawson at number 18 is a little bit of a reach?

getting anybody at 18 is a reach, every1 that is projected from pick 18-64 is supposed to be equally talented, so now we just draft by name. so i guess lawson opposite ware SOUNDS best.

one of the other issues I have with drafting Lawson is what happens when Parcells is gone (and its definitely sooner rather than later)...Lawson has no potential whatsoever to play OLB in a 4-3 scheme, and niether does Ware- (and both would be totally wasted if they did)..if a coach comes in and goes back to the 4-3 and Ware/Lawson are both on the roster, what do you do? Both would have to play RDE is the 4-3...using a 1st rd pick (especially at 18) on a guy who wouldnt even start a yr or two from now would be a wasted pick

on the other hand, if they draft someone like Carpenter he has potential to play OLB in the 3-4 or 4-3 because of his coverage ability

it wouldnt be the sole reason to make a yay or nay call on a player, but its something to think about because not all coaches want to play a 3-4 defense

I think LB is clearly one option the Cowboys could pursue in the 1st rd but I think there is going to be some very good talent at LB later in rd 1 or rd 2 like Chad Greenway from Iowa who I think could be a very good pickup.

Be the best Outside Linebacker Combo in the NFL

I sure hope so. I really hope Lawson falls to #18 because he would be the perfect fit to our current defense IMO. I wouldn't mind Carpenter either, but his stcok is dropping and I think we could still get him in the 2nd round if needed. Lawson won't make it out of the first round though.

you gotta make Akins nickname start with an a.. it will roll of the toungue better like akin "the amazin'" ayodele or "the attacker." and then as a bonus we could call him Triple A. lol

I think it sounds better as "The Amazing Akin Ayodele"

I would be willing to bet a lot of money that if Parcells leaves next year, Jerry Jones will make certain the next coach will implement a 3-4 system. He is no fool.

maybe, but maybe not

any quality coach is going to insist on making those calls himself, and right now we have players who are flexible and could play in either scheme

I think Carpenter is a better fit for the Cowboys as we need a fiery leader out there.

Having said that I certainly wouldn't cry if we took Lawson.

Both will be studs in the 3-4.

Greenway is terribly overrated. He'd be OK in a 4-3, but I don't like him in the 3-4 at all.
