Cowboys pre-draft press conference

They seem to routinely over estimate the talent level.
hate to tell you but the cowboys have been graded out as one of the best drafting teams in the last decade...and with as bad as garrett was, hes not wrong....

Jerry is a snake oil salesmen, stop listening to what he says, he's full of you know what!
oh I think Jerry is funny as hell and I enjoy his press conferences. of course nobody gave press like Bill Parcells and no one ever will again. How we are to bring him back for the pressers.
Jerry is what it is and I’ve made peace with it

imo trade down from 26 is hard to pull off.you are likely moving out of the 1st rd which we covet and the compensation won't be much

Listening to the pre-draft press conference and Jerry dancing around trades. You know he loves it and he was flirting with the suggestion right from a joke about trading I think I should say Hinting add a trade down I believe it’s gonna happen. So what’s the trade down for and will there be to trade downs or rather a trade down and a trade up? Of course it all depends on how the draft is fallen
No tea leaves to read here. He says the same thing about trades every year

That's fine but they also routinely overestimate the talent level of the roster. I agree with you about Garrett, he couldn't hold down a job as an OC for the Giants. They did give credit to the coaches for being involved with draft and though it's early the last few drafts seem especially good since MM and DQ have been on board. Drafting good players is different than building a roster which I also think has taken a turn for the better with the two new coaches.

About to start.

What little you can get out, this is what I got out of it:

-They are definitely taking a back in the first 4 rounds
-They want to continue to beef up both lines
-They would never take a TE like kincaid in the first. If they did take a TE it would have to be a complete TE like Mayer

Am I the only one that comes away thinking they’re targeting a possible trade up for Jalen Carter?

Jerry Jones mentioned trade up and mentioned warts several times…
That's a good catch!! And very optimistic of you. But Jerry isn't trading into the top 5. He's talking about players like Randy Gregory and the like.

It’s all about who’s there that someone below you really wants. Can’t really plan it since you won’t know who’s gonna be there. The lower in the round the harder it is to pull off
If the opportunity is there, great. But at 26 it’s not an easy deal to pull off

I think the issue in the past has been more about not filling in the gaps with FA and using contracts as a way to reward not as a way to incentivize. So, by that definition i think you could say they overestimated the positions they didnt address in the draft but from a drafted talent POV i don't think they overestimate routinely...maybe a bad contract here or there but again that is more a function of how they think about contract extensions.

yup...i wouldnt be shocked to see two line picks, a rb and the best graded player on their boards (in that order)...additionally, i kinda feel a trade down is coming and that they are going to try and go with multiple 2nd and 3rd rounders

Yes, true, I got that feeling as well.

Routinely. Let's just say compared to the teams that advance in the playoffs. Our roster is usually good enough to make the playoffs and maybe win a wild card game especially now that almost half the teams make the playoffs but that' about it. Just look at the WRs in the conference championship games. They are well coached, MM and DQ have done wonders in the draft room and on the field. The comment by Jerry was out of line.

I think that might be a good move in this draft. Not counting QBs I see about 17 players worth a first round pick, and 13 of them are probably not going to be there at 26.
