That's a pretty big net you're casting.WoodysGirl;2115128 said:For some reason, that sounds like a Rack/theogt/Fuzzy argument..
Only because you guys are known for engaging in tedious arguments that go for hundreds of posts . Throw a lil B.S. (Bob) in there and my eyes glaze.theogt;2115130 said:That's a pretty big net you're casting.
WoodysGirl;2115114 said:Question, Adam. How often was the dime package used last year? When I think "dime," I don't really think of it as a package that is used very often.
Because of the changes in offensive rules, I know the nickle is used as much as the based defense nowadays.
Oh ok. 35-40% seems kinda high, but I'll take your word for it...and wait patiently for you to complete your research.AdamJT13;2115149 said:Right now, I'm in the process of going through all 1,032 of our defensive snaps last season and keeping track of which defense we were in. When I'm finished, I'll be able to answer that more precisely.
I can tell you that we averaged 2.44 cornerbacks per play. Without having counted yet, I'm pretty sure we had more plays with four cornerbacks on the field than with one on the field (such as short-yardage situations), so we probably were in a dime package 35-40 percent of the time. Most of those were "dime safety" packages rather than "dime corner" packages.

I remember him claiming once that Wade had called Roy a "nickel linebacker" or something in a PC once. And since I had recapped every PC that offseason, I knew that he hadn't.

Well, 3rd downs are 1/3 of your snaps. Then you have 1st and 2nd downs when teams run 3+ receiver sets, which is obviously more often nowadays.WoodysGirl;2115155 said:Oh ok. 35-40% seems kinda high, but I'll take your word for it...and wait patiently for you to complete your research.
Yeah, I remember.AdamJT13;2115161 said:What Phillips said was, "Some people call it a linebacker, some people call it a dime back. Whatever. But he's not playing deep half or deep quarter or anything like that. He's playing short zone and blitz." http://cowboys.beloblog.com/archives/2007/05/roys_officially_a_dime_back_not_a_nickel.html
It was Spagnola and some of the other media who called him a nickel linebacker.
That gets him more snaps on defense than every player except for about 3 or 4.Nors;2115168 said:2008 He's at best a situational LB, situational SS and Full Time Special Teamer.
All coverage responsibilities are gone with the talent our secondary has now.
I guess I'm looking at it like the nickle package is played closer to 50% So if the dime package is played, then (in my mind), the percentage in nickle would go down. But the nickle package would be closer to the 35-40%, and dime would be 15-20%.theogt;2115164 said:Well, 3rd downs are 1/3 of your snaps. Well, to my knowledge we didn't run a single true nickel package last year. There may have been a handful sprinkled throughout, but I don't recall any.WoodysGirl;2115171 said:I guess I'm looking at it like the nickle package is played closer to 50% So if the dime package is played, then (in my mind), the percentage in nickle would go down. Just my fuzzy math thinking out loud.

Well it's not like I know for sure. The 50% I have in my mind comes from all the media reports about how your third corner is probably playing 50% of the time. So take my logic and stretch it so that it says "nickle."theogt;2115172 said:Well, to my knowledge we didn't run a single true nickel package last year. Our "nickel" was really just our "dime safety" package.WoodysGirl;2115177 said:Well it's not like I know for sure. The 50% I have in my mind comes from all the media reports about how your third corner is probably playing 50% of the time. So take my logic and stretch it so that it says "nickle."
