Here's another useless stat --- Cowboys are 2-0 this season when Sean Lee doesn't start. Sit him down the rest of the year!

Not really. They have the Center help to the right but rarely to the left in pass protection. They do this in order to allow the RG to keep a closer spacing to Free than normal. This allows Free to over-set to the outside. This has contributed to Free's improved play while leaving LG Leary (the 1st time starter) on a island almost like an OT.

Normally, when a team has a 1st time starter at LG and veterans at RG and RT, they would give the young player as much help as possible with the Center; however, the Cowboys are having to cover up their weak link, Doug Free, at the expense of the young player.

You think Free gets cut in the off-season?
I've been vacillating over the merits of such a move.

I think that it is time to run behind Leary at least 3 times next week. Larger numbers give a closer meaning to what is happening in that trench and hey, why not go with the averages, 3x won't change our GP

Free's a guy you make do with while you have to but when the opportunity is there to upgrade you do it.

Scary to think that just a couple of years ago the team and a lot of it's fans thought that JAG was one of the best young T's in football.

Free can be a contributor if you upgrade the RG position. Frees best days have been when Kosier and Waters have played beside him. Releasing Free just creates another hole. So for now I would upgrade both guard positions next year. Then look for a tackle after that.

Only if it occurs after training camp. I think Parnell has the ability to at least be as good as Free. Unfortunately, he was injured for most of the 2013 preseason and didn't get a chance to compete with Free. Even if Parnell could beat him out as a starter, they would have to find a legit backup. They've kept Weems on the 53 so they must like him.

I don't see an OT being drafted early unless he is a OT/OG and I don't see a later round pick being ready to play in 2014.

I think Guard is a bigger need in the draft or possibly in free agency. They don't really have a legit backup. Costa is the only interior backup and he is really just a Center. They have had Weems practice at Guard but I don't know to what extent.

The Dallas Cowboys are ranked 27th in rushing yards in the NFL with 1,021 yards, and their 249 rushing attempts ranks next to last in the league. However, they lead the NFL with an 8.6 yards per carry on runs behind OG Ronald Leary on the left side, and when they run toward OT Tyron Smith, they average 4.73 yards per carry.

You know there's a big issue with the running game when a stat like that is mentioned.

Yeah, it seems like Leary is our weak link. Some stats just don't really mean anything. I don't know.

More like stats that are not vetted properly don't really mean anything. Can't blame the stats when the sample size is way off and the writer doesn't acknowledge this.

As far as Leary goes, I think he's been decent given his situation. I wouldn't bank on him being a good starter down the road, but all things considered there's no reason why he can't be either if his knee holds up.

I can't see them targeting any offensive players early in the draft other than guard (of course, if a stud tackle falls to them, maybe even the right RB...). This team has too many holes on defense. They could probably find starters in the first four rounds on D. It's that bad.

Thank you for the reply.
And a good one at that.
