Twitter: Cowboys re-sign RB Gus Johnson (Practice Squad)

I don't understand the need for a 5th RB on this team right now. Short at D line, WR, potentially TE already and with QB situation

I agree.

They can't get Christine Michael on the game day roster, so I see little point in adding another guy who will never see the field.

I can think of plenty of better uses of that spot.

They want to try to develop him. I'm sure if someone else comes along that is a better prospect, he'll be let go again.

In McClay I trust.

It is the practice squad, not the active 53.

You do realize that we need healthy RBs on the practice squad for the defense to practice against, right?
So why not guys who also know our offense and may develop.

Develop him into what exactly?

Does anyone see some high upside talent in Gus Johnson? Because I sure don't.

Yeah, but I would much rather see the spot used for a position with more of a need.

In the absolute worst case scenario, Gus Johnson will never see the field for this team. And with injury and suspensions elsewhere, I think you can make better use of that spot.

Is it possibly a sign that CMike is going to be active this week? Johnson running with the scout team so CMike can practice with the starters?

I don't know. Unfortunately, I'm not a scout. But they obviously see something that's worth developing. Who knows, maybe he's just being used as a practice dummy.

That is not really how the practice squad works most of the time. It is used as a developmental tool sometimes, but often it is just to get enough bodies to practice.

Just because Johnson is a RB does not mean he does not fill a role on the scout special teams, step in as a LB, etc.

Didn't guys like Ron Leary and Davon Coleman spend some time there before they eventually made the 53?

I would rather use it on a guy who has a chance of getting there.

Like I said, sometimes, but not always for development.

It is the practice squad.

They have DL on the 53 that are not even active for the game.

They have 4 TEs on the 53 which is rare.

It appears Romo will go on short term IR which opens a spot for another QB.

They have 2 WRs on the practice squad and 6 on the 53. Dunbar has basically been a WR and Escobar runs some WR routes.
