I'd prefer the back of the roster be youth in the WR group. Nothing against Hurns and Austin, but I'd prefer the likes of Wilson, Brown, and either Johnson or Guyton for the final 3.

Good, Im glad we didn't waste cap space because hes rkg. Nothing against him personally, we just dont need him at that cost.

It's a positive move by our front office and Im honestly somewhat suprised. Listening to beat writers it seemed many felt like he'd stick because of what he provides in the locker room.

What's it going to be then, eh?

If Austin can handle the punt return job and perform how he did in the postseason, then I pencil him in as the fourth.

I am not sold on Brown, but apparently they want him as a blocking specialist.

Wilson is really an unknown. All we have on him is that he was doing well for a few days in camp.

Guyton and Johnson should be a good battle to watch.

All this does is give some flexibility if any of the last three show out in camp.

What they were offering Hurns was about what players like Jordan Matthews, Rashard Higgins and Seth Roberts are getting on their 1 year deals.

I would be interested to see if he gets an offer much more than that on the open market. I guess he thinks he will, I don't see it.

That’s my opinion as well. Hurns isn’t worth more than $2 million. Not where he is now.

Cowboys releasing WR Allen Hurns, per source.

Cowboys wanted Allen Hurns back at a lower price, but he wanted to test the market. So Hurns gets his wish.
O.K. I'll definitely "get in back&fall in line " of those negotiating terms, amicable to all entities concerned,,,best of luck #17, as I'll remain your #1 fan where ever you land:starspin::thumbup::starspin:

Talent evaluation is a part of the strategy. You can't have one without the other.

I called this out as soon as it happened.

Actually, we missed out on better wide receivers who had no interest in coming here.

We got outbid for Sammy Watkins, who got 48 Million for 3 years and had 40 catches. Then they got outbid for Allen Robinson, who got 42 Million over 3 years for 55 catches.

Hurns was a gamble that failed but going over the numbers Watkins and Robinson got would have been a disaster.

If you want to see a "complete failure of strategy", look at this guy:

Excellent points. The Cowboys were very lucky the Raiders made Amari Cooper available or Dallas would still be in trouble.

Man...that sucks but not a surprise as others have said. When he snapped that leg, I was in Vegas at the MGM Grand Sports Book and all the Seahags fans went nuts cheering. They got a real thrill out of it. I kept my cool, but was pissed off in a big way. Then when Fatty McGilicutty (Janikowski) tore his fat arse muscle we all returned the favor. I NEVER cheer for an injury to an opposing player but the crossed the line and then some.

What is the point of doing this now?
Point of doing it now is now it's a win win for both parties.

Since Hurns is just now cleared for practice cowboys don't have to pay a potential injury settlement. Since TC hasn't started Hurns is now not only cleared to practice but can find a team to do workouts with.

This is literally the best case scenario for both parties involved and it even gives Hurns the option to return to the team if the market isn't what he's looking for elsewhere

I can't believe people can cheer an injury like that. I understand having a "healthy hatred" for your opponent but there's a difference between real life and a game. Hurns' entire quality of life could have changed that night had the injury been worse.

Good job on keeping your cool; I'm not sure I could have!

To be fair the Dez contract was market rate for the top WRs, they didn't set a new standard like others have. The issue is how long the guy maintains his high level of play, which Dez clearly didn't do. You would think a guy who was such a freak physically would have held up but he didn't.

Biggest winner is probably Cedrick Wilson. The team is extremely high on him and I honestly have no idea how he lasted til the 6th round of the 2018 draft.
1. Amari Cooper
2. Michael Gallup
3. Randall Cobb
4. Tavon Austin
5 .Cedrick Wilson vs Noah Brown
7. Devin Smith
8. Jon'Vea Johnson
9. Lance Lenoir
10. Jalen Guyton

$6M cap space for your 5th WR was crazy anyway. You just replaced a $6M cap hit for a guy who can do the same thing (and with a brighter future) for only $524k.

The big winner is Zeke.

That's who Is going to get that $$$.

Just in time for Thursday.

It was the leg and knee issues that ruined Dez. He was never a great route runner; a big part of his game was using his freakish athleticism, burst, and quickness to beat defenses.

Once he lost that, it magnified his other shortcomings. This is why the Cowboys should pay Amari Cooper. Cooper is an expert route runner; so we know he will still be effective once he starts to lose a step physically. Cooper will age well; players like Dez do not.
