Excellent points. The Cowboys were very lucky the Raiders made Amari Cooper available or Dallas would still be in trouble.

Yeah, we are clearly better off with Amari Cooper at age 25 going forward. But its fun to think about the team if Dez was still playing like the old Dez and we had Johnathan Abram playing SS from our #1 pick.

I am perplexed as to why anyone would have an issue with this.

Hurns is a WR that wasn’t all effective last year and is coming off a serious leg injury.

How can anyone have an issue with this?

He wasn't that bad. 20 catches at 14.2 per.

He has a good average. Just didn't get a lot of throws his way.

Most of the WR numbers were down last season.

Once he lost that, it magnified his other shortcomings. This is why the Cowboys should pay Amari Cooper. Cooper is an expert route runner; so we know he will still be effective once he starts to lose a step physically. Cooper will age well; players like Dez do not.

If I had better PC skills, I would change my avatar to that play where Amari Cooper juked a DB into tearing a knee ligament.

I also think the idea of having a 2012-14 era Dez and Amari Cooper on offense is fun. That would keep defensive coordinators awake, for sure.

It was the leg and knee issues that ruined Dez. He was never a great route runner; a big part of his game was using his freakish athleticism, burst, and quickness to beat defenses.

Don't agree.

Dez has incredible stats. 73 TDs

The Dak->Dez connection wasnt there like it was with Romo.

Plenty of video on YouTube showing Dak unable to make throws to Dez. You can Google it if you have about 15 minutes to kill in frustration.

His average went up because he had one catch for 49 yards in the last (meaningless) game of the season against the Giants. Pre-Amari Cooper he was supposed to play like a #2 WR and he had 14 catches in 8 games (6 in the last 8).

He was a reasonable gamble to take and urinating away 6 Million isn't nearly as bad as the Sammy Watkins contract but he clearly didn't perform as expected.

You are right, but to me the Dak-Dez connection was pretty good in 2016. Had Dez not missed a few games he would have topped 1,000 yards easy. But by 2017 it was clear Bryant was slowing down physically. Teams stopped double covering him and he still struggled. Just could not get the same separation we had gotten used to.

If this is all on Dak, than why did he and Amari Cooper click right from the start in 2018? Prescott was often sub-par in 2017 but his receiving corps did him no favors.

Maaaaaan. Amari, Dez and Zeke.

Defensive Coordinators would never sleep again or look like this:

It's unfortunate but that's the business side of it. I don't blame players who try to get what they can for the same reason.

Clearly they made this move because they need to sign the big 3, Dak, Zeke and Coop, and probably Byron Jones too. However I hate to see Hurns go. The guy was a warrior. He did everything that was asked of him. He would have been an asset this year.

I hope he comes back.

I wish Hurns the best, but I don't think he's coming back here. He'd be no more than the 4th receiver; and by late last season Noah Brown was taking a lot of what few snaps Hurns was still getting.

This move lets a guy like Jon'Vea Johnson, Ced Wilson, Reggie Davis, or Jalen Guyton make the team. The Cowboys know what they had in Hurns; now they have a chance to develop a younger alternative.

To be fair the Dez contract was market rate for the top WRs, they didn't set a new standard like others have. The issue is how long the guy maintains his high level of play, which Dez clearly didn't do. You would think a guy who was such a freak physically would have held up but he didn't.
Cuz' he got that immediate Big Head & pretty much refused to perfect his 'over-valued' craft's product,,, Man! That cat couldn't even hang it out for the first 4 quarters of post contract signing game play,,,and just in case anyone finds them selves curious as to the true terminology of the meaning of the word:
"MAROON"?,,,a quick casted glance at yer' posted up pictorial, will more than adequately suffice in that regardo_O

I look at his release as a sign they have a lot of of talented young WRs and to be fair to Hurns it gives him a chance to find a team to sign with. I think Hurns is a decent WR but not as productive as anticipated.

If Austin can handle the punt return job and perform how he did in the postseason, then I pencil him in as the fourth.

I am not sold on Brown, but apparently they want him as a blocking specialist.

Wilson is really an unknown. All we have on him is that he was doing well for a few days in camp.

Guyton and Johnson should be a good battle to watch.

All this does is give some flexibility if any of the last three show out in camp.

I'd be with you on Austin, but to me he just doesn't seem durable.

Yeah but Sammy Watkins (a limited slot receiver who averages 8 missed games per year due to injury throughout his career) for 16 million was the definition of a horrible contract. Mahomes will never have an above average OL. They'll have to pay him $40million plus Kelce $15-20 million and Hill 20 million. No way they can ever win in the trenches.

Not saying I actually wanted Sammy Watkins, I'm saying the decision to get Hurns and the contract they gave him was ridiculous.
