As Fish explained it on theFan, Ben Bass is the 8th DL on the depth chart and with Hargrove not bouncing back from the layoff he wasn't close to beating out Bass.

Yeah, I've heard a lot of good reports on Ben Bass so far this offseason.

That doesn't surprise me at all. Glad to hear it.

Good when they signed him, good when they cut him.

I agree. If everyone is healthy (or relatively healthy) for the season, I think we have a great starting unit.

And to compliment that, we have youth on our second line with Lissemore, Crawford, Wilber, and Bass. Now, no one here truly knows how any of those guys will end up.... but really, its a pretty good situation. You have experience and top end talent on the first unit... and youth/potential in the second unit.

We'll see how it shakes out. But I am pretty stoked to see the defense this year.

Seems like they thought he was a really good guy. Too bad they weren't able to evaluate him better physically before actually signing him.

Team has been saying all offseason that they like their DL depth. Nobody has to agree. But cutting Price for injury reasons and replacing him with Hargrove, who is then cut for injury reasons--especially after a strong showing from the bottom-roster guys in OTAs--is hardly the end of the world. At most, we've got one bottom of the roster DL spot open with cap room and veteran candidates available to fill it if we want to fill it. Certainly nothing to dog the team about some more.

I am concerned. Ratliff has been banged up for 3 years. Ware has been banged up for a couple and coming off a shoulder surgery. Hatcher had a good year last year, but is still an unknown.

I don't really trust guys like Lissemore, Bass, or Wilbur to carry the load. I am optimistic Crawford will be a player.

I would be one of the several. I was gnashing my teeth when the Cowboys passed on Floyd. I'll be elated to learn I have dental bills for no reason.

Saw Ben Bass in OTAs and though it was the Under Ware Olympics, he looked stronger and faster than any big man on the field.

I'd be concerned, too, if I were worried about the play of any of those guys. They're all going to play at a level well above average for NFL DLs. Injuries are a legitimate concern, but they are for everybody. The only one I'm significantly concerned about is Ratliff, but then I also like the guys we have on the DL bench for their respective roles. I think Crawford's going to be a starting quality player, too.
