RELEASED Cowboys release Joe Milton; added to PS

Howell is more experienced and consistent. Milton may have more raw talent but you're not trusting him to start a game if Dak goes down.

Having said that I hope Milton gets back on the PS and Dallas can continue molding him. I admit I drank the Milton Kool Aid this preseason, but...it was preseason. Will Grier had good preseason games. Means nothing.

Exactly, and I mean, if we can get him on the PS, that's still important, and I see him getting called up to the 53 week 1 if he's on our PS

They didn’t give Howell guaranteed money to be the third QB.
Howell is the best backup QB because he has been a veteran starter in the league. He played as well as Milton in his first months in the system. Even if you still hold to the belief that Milton was our future franchise QB, how were we going to keep him after this season? When was he going to get experience if Dak is here for 2-3 more years? Were we going to rebuild with a 30 year old inexperienced starter?

Why did Milton look good in the two preseason games vs 2nd and 3rd teamers in vanilla offenses, but we heard crickets about him in the joint practices.

I believe the right move was to use Howell for the backup, and bring in a 21-22 year old QB in Dak’s last year or two.

Ha, we gave up a 5th for Milton and you all are crying. A 5th is too much for a lotto ticket? Keep your money in the bank or bonds, you will obviously sleep better. Nite Nite…
Some still crying about Lance, hell SF gave up a 3rd overall pick for him. Lol...at least the next 2 weeks will provide some laughs

Very confused

One week ago, some posters are thinking about trading him for a high draft pick - to now released.
Maybe there is an attitude problem there?

Can't see Jerry liking this move, given the draft capital they gave up - so maybe he really has stepped back and letting the coaches make the decisions??
That was just fans over rating him.

I dont like cutting him though. He has upside and looked like he worked alot in the offseason. Down the line he could have had some real value either here on the field or in the market. I think Howell is better right now, but Id rather have cut him

But but but.....we couldve had 3 more Sheltons with those later piks

4th on Mingo. 3rd and 6th on Jones.

Not much bang for the buck.
We can blame these types of moves for the lack of depth and the defense being so bad in recent years... For those that don't value 3-day picks much, here are a few (Dak, Flournoy, Ferguson, Bland)

I'm not gonna say that because when they got rid of Lance he just sucked. In this case....they had two good QB's. They are cutting good players because for the first time in a while they have too many good players at certain positions.
I think we could have cut Clark if we were intent of claiming a HB. We would still have good #'s at S. Id say Carson, but I think they will add a vet and he will likely be cut then

Nobody would give you a pick for Milton? I find that hard to believe.
I am guessing other teams saw this coming, so why give up a pick knowing he'll be cut? Only logical answer, or Joe just stinks, lol
