What's really strange is that no team would even give a 7? Maybe people overrated him a little. Those of you that are upset.

Not for anything but qb careers can be pretty long. I’m not sure that the complete book has been written on Lance yet.

This reaks of Schotty's goofy decision-making. He loves Howell and apparently that's his pet player. Dak's Will Grier if you will.

Screw ALL OF THAT. We need a guy with talent who can win games. Howell ain't that and never will be! This is franchise-crippling stupid. We could have at least gotten back the 5th round pick we gave up. Now, we just made another team better so we can 2 idiots with backwards visors on the sidelines.

Mark my words: Dak will get injured and Howell will suck...then what?
Just not true. Howell is a better QB than Milton.

There are subtle indications that Jerry's ego is finally taking a back seat to common sense being whispered in his ear by trusted associates. Old age, and confrontation with mortality, can & do change a man.

The Jaydon Blue and Joe Milton releases would have been inconceivable ten years ago. Football decisions...not ones based on stubbornly sticking with a stock pick not performing.
Well said dawg.

Well, we’re all mostly surprised
I guess they trusted Howell, more than they did, Milton, and they want the roster spot for something else , obviously somebody has a plan we don’t understand,

I mean truthfully I don't think the results change from Howell to Milton. I just don't like what it says. They spent all offseason saying everyones job is up regardless of draft status or money.....Sam Williams get cuts and they prove that. But then they let Milton go who to me outplayed Howell in the preseason games. I get Howell might've looked better in the practices but that holds no weight to me. At the end of the day Shotty likes him and probably playing favorites.
I agree with you. This feels like a "fit" decision...not one based on performance and potential. Howell is cooked...he is a journeyman backup. He also gets dinged as he is a smaller guy. Dak for sure will get dinged this season...most likely in a way that will cost him a start or two.

I attribute this DUMB decision to 3 things:
1. A cult of personality inside the building that is blind to the fact that there are 31 other teams.
2. This cult of personality is especially strong in years when Jerry believes the team is competitive...and therefore presupposes Dak can't get injured...not in Jerry's destiny year.
3. Schotty and the team playing favorites based on "fit".

Screw that...I want an uncomfortable coach and QB room. Troy and Jimmy had a rocky relationship for years. Not ideal...but screw "fit".

Exactly. That’s why holding onto Milton seemed like the best option. I don’t understand this move. He was cheap and he was progressing. I don’t know if they’re in denial about Dak being a human and he ages like the rest of us but Dak can’t play forever and having someone in the wings with potential was nice.
I don't get it. I'm a Dak fan but there's certain moves they make that make me wonder....Dak will stay healthy is one of them. I mean I hope he will but I certainly don't. This front office for as good as they've been this year they have a tendency to show their arrogance. Its why it shockedme they traded up for Downs. I thought they were going to foolishly sit there and hope he falls.

Dak is due for $75m in 2027. He will get a restructure or extension next offseson just so we can get new contracts for Pickens, Fluornoy and Overshown.

If we cut him after the 2027 season, it comes with a $131m dead cap hit

The cowboys are probably going to have Dak counting against their cap until at least 2030 and that’s if they bite the bullet and don’t keep restructuring him every year

There is no plan after Dak. Dak is the plan.

Bottom line, the Cowboys don’t *need* or even *want* Daks future replacement to be on the team because he will never play unless Dak has a career ending injury.

They *need* a bus driver like Howell or Rush.
That’s what I’m discouraged about. For me this is not about Dak’s playing ability. For me it’s strictly about age and injury concerns. We’re hoping Dak can play into his late 30’s. Hope is a bad strategy and that contract looks worse as he gets older.

You can’t “hope” that Father Time doesn’t take his toll. You have to prepare for it.

Interesting because between him and Milton I saw Milton as the better player. And Cowboys are using "he practices" better as a excuse lol.
No, Milton has extremely good tools. At the QB position, that doesn't make him the better player.

Howell reads Ds better and can play w/i the system better. Should be more consistent. Milton makes big plays, but makes way too many boneheaded plays.

Just not true. Howell is a better QB than Milton.
I think he’s trusted more, does that make him better, in some ways, but not in every aspect, obviously the franchise agrees with you
