It all depends on how you look at it. Dead money now equals lots more cap room next year.

TO's 2009 cap hit had he stayed was approx $9 M
TO's 2009 cap hit now that he's been released approx $9.6 M

TO's 2010 cap hit would have been approx $11.7 M
TO's 2010 cap hit had we cut him next off-season would have been $10.6 M of dead space.

Instead, he is completely off the books next off-season meaning Jerry can use that $11.7 M to sign free agents or re-sign our own players.

Owens demanded double/bracket coverage every single play. We won't be able to replace those kinds of mismatches our coordinator forgot to capitalize on.

We weren't creating those mismatches with him either. No Cowboy receiver was putting up 100 + yards per game this year. The problem is the play calling dictated trying to get T.O. the ball. I do believe in Jason Garrett but Garrett felt the pressure of getting the ball to T.O. That problem is no longer there.
