Cowboys release TO *Merged*

I get to the office, turn on the computer and BAM ! T.O. and RW are gone!

Wowza!

Real interesting to hear what T.O. has to say about it all after he recovers from his shock.

I have mixed emotions over his release. Sure hope it works out for us.

I've bolded the part of your post that was incorrect.

The other parts are legit, but let's quit pretending that Owens was out there every week last year dominating the guy across from him. He spent alot of last season getting his *** kicked at the LOS and watching DBs run his routes for him.

Say all that you want about Owens personality, but he always practiced hard and shows up to win on game day.

Some guys don't do that.

In all of my coaching days, I looked for the guys that would claw someones eyes out to win the game.

Owens is one of "those guys."

He's gone, I get it, I can live with that, .. but if we don't replace his production, our offense will suffer.

Garrett has no offensive imagination, Wade has never won a playoff game, and Romo does not seem to understand the importance of "don't turn the ball over."

All 3 are still here.

Yep. That's how I feel, too.

One thing for sure is that there will be no excuses this season.

Well, that's something which you will have very little to worry about. After all, this is Terrell Owens.

So let me get this straight:

Garrett failed in big games,
WP has never won a playoff game,
Owens always performed,

and we get rid of Owens.

Got it.

I've got no problem cleaning house...but if you're going to clean it...then CLEAN IT.

With Phillips here...it will never be clean.

You do all this and still have that clown here.

Kind of defeats the purpose.

I think he feels bad because Dallas was the first time he ever felt 'home'.

He grew up a lot in front of our eyes, and I really wish him the best. He isn't quite as bad a person as people believe, he's just a very insecure 36 year old - which is a bad recipe when you're surrounded by a bunch of impressionable young players.

He grew up alot in front of our eyes? :lmao2:

The same guy he got ousted from his 3rd team grew up?? :lmao2:

If he grew up he would still be here.

Compared to his previous two stops he has grown up a whole hell of a lot.

Nice emoticons.

But obviously, in the end, not a hell of enough.

That's one of three things not right with this move:

  1. You cut TO, Anthony Henry, Pacman Jones and safety Roy Williams . . . You know Greg Ellis is coming soon (I believe he has a 6 million dollar salary). Tank is gone, Canty is gone, and Burnett is close to being gone. So in essence this is sort of a house cleaning. You are right, if you are going to clean house, then clean house . . . don't half way do it.
  2. Why wait until week 2 of free agency to cut TO? You hurt your chances of getting another solid reciever in for the team, and you stick it to TO, because quite a few WR jobs are filled. He did produce while he was here, and he never got in trouble with the law and for the most part he was quiet, so why treat him like that?
  3. Why does it always feel like Jerry is trying to catch lightning in a bottle? Evertime there is some sore of trend in the NFL, it's like Jerry Jones and Dallas is the last guy on the bus. It's feels like he looked at all the teams in the playoffs, said "Well the majority of those teams dont' have 2 marquee receivers" so he's now on that trend . . . Let's keep one and cut TO. He did it with th 3-4 defense, the mobile quarterback experiment (when he drafted Quincy Carter his style of play was in vogue), his West Coast offense experiment (when Bruce Coslet was here). Why can't the Dallas Cowboys have their own football identity instead of trying to ride a trend?

I can not believe that I was stupid enough to spend the last 2+ hours reading ALL 66 pages on this thread. I am no doubt stupider for spending my time reading this whole thread. But back to what I was about to post.

TO is no doubt a good WR, he can certainly still play. But, some on here acting like he is one of the elite WR's in football are playing fantasy football. Elite WR's can not be shutdown by only good CB's by matching them up 1 on 1 and jamming them at the LOS. And I will definately miss TO's desire, TO definately has his fair share of issues, but one of them is not a lack of desire to win.

That said, cutting TO was a move that we had to make most likely, for several reasons. One, we needed to get his $9 million a year off our salary cap for next year, since he is no longer one of the elite WR's in the game. Number two, with his diminishing talent, TO the many problems that TO brings with his whining no longer outweigh what he brings to the field.

Don't get fooled just by looking at TO's stats, he is no longer an elite WR, he is a good WR that Tony Romo made look great.

But obviously, in the end, not a hell of enough.

Called his first QB out for being questionably homosexual. Blasted every coordinator, coach, etc.

Destroyed the Eagles organization, held out, insulted his QB, made a public spectacle in his driveway.

He was a saint here compared to his time with the Whiners and Philthy.

What we have all suspected for some time is now official. Jerry Jones has absolutely no clue. He has managed to completely destroy a Super Bowl caliber team in less than 2 seasons. Nice going Jerry.

Does anyone really think this team is better without Henry, Canty, and Owens? Owens at least ran the right routes, unlike Roy Williams.

Hello 5-11.

Yeah, but once he got his "chedder" last year, he was starting to pull the same crap with the Cowboys and that is why he got the ax.

So what did Roy Williams do all of last season?

Roy Williams didn't do much. But, ANYONE who believed that Roy Williams would come in and produce like a 1000 yard WR right away have ZERO understanding of what it takes to be a WR in the NFL.

No WR immediately steps in and starts to produce big numbers. You have to learn the offense, and also develop chemistry with the QB. This is essential because what is considered open for a WR in the pros would be considered fiarly well covered in college football. And WR's do not stay open for very long. All NFL passing games are about timing, and no WR no matter how good he is, can step in in the middle of a season without being in training camp with the team and have that timing down.

To add to the timing issues are that while Roy Williams was in Dallas for 10 games, he didn't get to practice with Tony Romo for the first 3 games, because of Romo's injury), then by the time that Romo was back (though never fully healthy) Roy Williams was playing with a bad foot. The truth is, we never got to see the REAL Roy Williams last year.
