Why would it come down to Williams and Byrd?

Because you can only keep 53 players. And they are both right there at the bottom of the roster.

If it came down to 3 rbs & 1 fb & 5 wrs or 4 rbs 0 fb and 6 wrs.....i'd go the latter.

Williams is a lock. He isn't at the bottom of the roster.

I really liked Newsome and Byrd. My preference was Jamar but Byrd's size might give him a slight edge although I think "the reaper" will be seeing him shortly also. The best group of WR's I've seen in my many trips to Oxnard.

Dwayne Harris? Harris is like 4th or 5th on the depth chart lol. Harris spot is guaranteed. Newsomes competition was Beasley, Streets, Byrd, etc.

subract bees, and I agree. 5 & 6 was the only questions... and street had the inside track on 5 anyhow.....

The truth is both he and Byrd out played Street in the preseason but the draft pick investment has led to this cut.

They both should have outplayed a rookie. Both Newsome and Byrd have been in the NFL a few years. They have lots of practice reps and a little regular season game experience. That is an advantage.

Are you referring to T. Williams or R. Williams?

T. Williams. I thought the discussion was about wide receivers. If it is just about guys at the bottom of the roster then I understand why R. Williams would be compared to Byrd.

I would think that long term potential and better measurables that lead to a player getting drafted would play big factors in the final decision.

Devin Street has Terrence Williams type upside. He runs great routes and is a smooth runner. He just needs time. They were talking on the break about how Byrd has an NFL body because he's been in the league a few years and that they expect Devin to really impress next year with an offseason in the weight room.

I understand, but that's just because of Harris' returning ability. He's not the receiver Newsome is, although both are good.

I don't know about that. I personally think highly of Harris. Not as this big time threat but Harris has a knack for always doing something positive. If he's on the kick off team he's making a tackle. When he's thrown to on the field its usually for positive yardage. He's always doing something out there and I think that's a special quality to have to always be able to show up out there like that.

When it comes to Newsome.....its been my mantra all preseason with guys like Vaughn and all the rest of these guys. I've seen Harris do it against NFL competition on Sunday's. I cant' say the same for Newsome.

subract bees, and I agree. 5 & 6 was the only questions... and street had the inside track on 5 anyhow.....

I personally think Beasley was the competition because he doesn't contribute special teams. Newsome can do that so if had the knack to get wide open in the slot and had Romo's trust on the field? Beasley may be unemployed. There's just not many spots on this team available for players who can't contribute to special teams.
