Cowboys reportedly called about Forte earlier in the season

Agreed. No player is worth a first for a one year rental....I would not see the asking price being a 1st round pick. Players just don't have much trade value in the free agent days.

My gut tells me the Bears would want to keep him and try to resign him after the season. He is young and would probably command more money than we could justify spending in free agency for him.

I think so too. If you assume Forte is gone.... All you have is Jeffeys as someone to build your team around.

Forte is making 9.2 mill so I doubt we'd go there.

Jeffery would be wonderful but he'll get a big pay day this offseason.. Prolly 11-12 mill a year.

I could definitely see them acquiring Forte, he would be a difference maker on this team.

Question for AdamJT or XWalker, I don't know because trades are so rare. Can the Bears pick up some of his salary under the cap if/when they trade him? I would think if they could they would do so to get a better pick from the team trading for him.

I think if we do deal with them, it's more likley for a guy like Will Sutton who fits our scheme, doesnt fit theres and we brought in for a predraft visit last year

Yep, they have him playing 0 Technique with the move to a 3-4. He's a natural 3-tech.

Yeah because being 30 is why no one wanted Peterson. Hows he doing this season?

Somehow we make this little excuses like his too old or too expensive which hinder us from getting the Superbowl. I knew it was a pipe dream in getting Peterson to Dallas. But if the Cowboys would have dangled a draft pick to Minnie to see what would happen, I firmly believe that Peterson would have taken a paycut and Peterson would have ended up in Dallas.

This would be an awful idea...

Forte would help us win exactly zero gamrs. Our RBs have been fine. The O-Line needs to step up and Weeden needs to throw the ball down the field to open it up.

This would be beyond stupid to trade for Jeffery or Forte

For whatever reasoning, the deal didn't go through. I'm guessing the Dallas brass probably decided that they wanted too much for a 30-year old RB on the downside of his career. Don't be surprised if drafting a young RB is one of the targets on our list for the next draft. Either that or C-Mike will have proven himself worthy this year, assuming, of course, that he'll ever see action in an actual game. (I won't be holding my breath for fear of suffocation.)

From the sounds of this, it sounds like the Bears and Cowboys were talking right around the same time us fans were talking about it here.

They likely couldn't get the money part of the deal to make sense.

From all indications, the Panthers really got themselves a steal getting Jared Allen for a cheap rental. Given our injuries and suspensions, I might have made that deal if I were the Cowboys.

if we could get jefferies in here for the rest of the year that would be insane. can you imagine bryant, jefferies and williams lined up? again depends on cost and we've given up a lot of lower round picks already to get this far. also, unless we could lock him up for beyond this year, it's kinda a "one of those nice to have" things that in the end wouldn't be worth the price.

Sounds like a "this ain't Madden" pipe dream scenario to me. While it would be awesome, I don't see it as plausible in any way.

Too many parts of it simply don't add up to me.

yea, that's why i had to discount it pretty quick. chicago just seems to be having a fire sale and hell, cutler depending on $ would make more sense. then again who do we clear for salary space as it is?

back to my regularly scheduled morning.

i agree about the fire sale, and I think that prior to these injuries, the Cowboys may have been buyers, but I'm not sure that's the case any longer.

Other than maybe a DT, I think the answers now have to come from what they've got.

Forte makes a lot of sense, but Dallas is running out of late round picks.

He could get that tough yard that Randle and McFadden can't, and he's an excellent pass protector and receiver, too.
