Cowboys restructure Hooker's contract

The notion a brand new DC has significant influence over personnel decisions is nonsense. If it ever happened with a NFL team it certainly wouldn’t be the Dallas Cowboys. The guy hasn’t been a DC for one game, with any team, and now he’s directing the Cowboys front office on what to do? There is no way I believe that. There is a limit to fans’ “wishful thinking”, even during the offseason.

I can understand fans "wishful thinking" when it comes to the new DC. He's young, smart and has a talent for teaching. He also seems to have a plan. But make no mistake Jerry still has final say over the roster.

I hope he develops into some sort of savant for the sake of the team. He'll def have major input when it comes to recommending players that fit his scheme.
Jerry has a history of allowing this. Sometimes with disastrous effects.

I'm thinking of you R Marinelli...

For me, this isn’t a disaster at all. In an ideal world, I’d have cut him, but saving $2m against his cap number is better than nothing.

Likewise, he isn’t exactly deadwood. He’s average; not poor, like Wilson is imo. You need average guys on your roster.

If he can fit Parker’s scheme as a high floor, average performer, that will do.

Hopefully we draft someone like Thieneman to eventually take the starting FS role. Regardless, having Hooker around doesn’t exactly hurt.

... IDK....he might do well under Parkers scheme.

But lately, Hooker had that, "what's he doing out there".
