Any high school or college athlete that aspires to be a TE in the NFL would have to know who Jason Witten is. It would be nothing more than common sense for such a person to want to study Jason closely.

Jason Witten was not a blue chip, naturally gifted athlete. He became one of the best TE's in history as a result of hard work, dedication, and a commitment to perfecting his play. He was the master technician.

At the very least, Schoonmaker knows what to say in order to endear himself to Cowboy fans.

I believe he wants to be a great TE for the Cowboys. However, I'm, not convinced he's just going to walk in and take over the position. He's going to have to fight to earn his percentage of play time. The designated starter, the one that receives the most opportunity, could be any of the three young players. It will be fun to watch.
This will truly be an example of compete for it in camp...that this fan likes.

Also, find out who the best 5 in the offensive line are...right now.

There's no question but what a capable TE can resolve many problems for a team's QB. The exploits of Witten and Romo reflected that idea to near perfection. I can't help but wonder if Dak's weaknesses may well benefit from Schoonmaker's play in ways that are quite similar. We'll see.

Nice post as usual plasticman. Schoon needs to realize the unreal history of all pro tight ends to wear Cowboys unis:
Ditka, Dupree, Cosby, Novacek, Whitten. I mean..............DAMN that's some talent we've had wear the star. He should look up a few of our past TE's, not just Jason. BTW, for the few Dbags who are bad mouthing Whitten in this thread you can piss off. Dude was the ultimate Cowboy: selfless, talented, team guy

Watch all the tip-toeing out of bounds and remember *not* to do that.

TEs have 50 lbs on the secondary and should be *looking* for contact.
Not really against it if you have the first and momentum is carrying you out of bounds why take a hit for 1 yard more, now if the extra yard is 1st down or TD that is different.

Football is a game of attrition. If your side is giving bigger hits than it's taking, you're winning.

I have a very good feeling about Schoonmaker. He just strikes me as the kind of young man that will do anything asked of him without complaint and bust his tail doing it.
A friend of mine, is a UM fan, but she is also a GB fan.

She loved our draft, and that we got 2 UM players. Said she was so jealous. That our draft was great overall, but also hated it as to being a GB fan.
She hated GB's draft, said it really sucked. Also is glad AR is gone but has no confidence at this point to Love being the QB.

She thinks Schoonmaker will be great. Thinks we got one of the better players in the draft.
She knows her football. I have better conversations with her than from many other people I know....and posters...:muttley:

She is Michigan and GB...I am Ohio State and Dallas....but we keep it fun and light hearted....Good football talk over a few beers....

Nice.

I enjoy football conversations with fans of other teams. It’s good to get other perspectives, as long as everyone is realistic and respectful and there’s no blind homerism. I have no patience for those that can only see how their team is great and everyone else is terrible.

I think Schoonmaker is going to be a good one. I agree with the team in that he has untapped potential as a downfield threat in addition to being a very good blocker.
