Dalton Schultz had 80 yards before leaving the game with a knee injury.

Early reports say he'll miss some time.

Meanwhile, the next men up are rookie tight ends Jake Ferguson and Payton Hendershot.

Hendershot made the team after Sean McKeon was waived to the practice squad while also suffering an ankle injury during preseason. It remains to be seen if he'll be called up from the practice squad, but it's likely we'll at least see Ferguson and Hendershot versus the Giants.

Ferguson is a similar player to Schultz, but probably a little more skilled in the area of blocking. He's been solid in his first couple of games with the team but has not yet made his first catch in the NFL.

Hendershot is more of a pass-catching tight end than a blocker. But that doesn't mean the Cowboys shouldn't utilize his skillset, especially in the absence of Schultz.

The victory against the Bengals was a positive outcome for the Cowboys, but they didn't leave the game unscathed.

How well do you think the' two rookies will be able fill Dalton Schultz's shoes in the coming weeks?

80 yards?

No way he had 80 yards.

He had like 2 receptions the whole game.

I missed it that he has a knee injury! Bummer. I like Hendershot, and Ferguson can get it done. Tough to choose, but Hendershot made some good plays in preseason.

Ferguson made some big blocks yesterday. He may already be better than Schultz in that aspect. If we go two tight ends, though, we might call up McKeon and use him in that role over Hendershot because of the blocking concerns.

They will be fine. With how this offense uses the TE position you don't have to have a world beater there. Just decent runner with good hands will keep things on track.

He has 80 yards after 2 game
Ferguson will start and Hendershot will be the #2.

I think they will use Ferg similar to Schultz. Just got to hope he can find those open spots in zone coverage.

do all of our players who go down with injuries have to be multiple weeks?

Without Cooper and Gallup drawing attention away from him downfield, you're seeing how limited Schultz really is. Ferguson will replace him with much less of a dropoff than you might think.

I have no concerns with Ferguson or Herdershott. And they are probably going to be better with blocking and holding on to the ball. I really think Shultz is overrated and Ferguson is going to be number one going down the road. Mark my words.

Schultz wanted a huge contract but cannot hold onto the ball in critical games and he simply cannot block. There is some history of turnovers with this guy. Ferguson will be the next tight end star and Hendershott will be great as well.

They can use Ferguson for teh shot routes Schultz runs. They need to get Hendershot downfield in the open where he can use the speed and RAC ability he showed in the preseason.
