I missed it that he has a knee injury! Bummer. I like Hendershot, and Ferguson can get it done. Tough to choose, but Hendershot made some good plays in preseason.
Well you.missed Ferguson then in preseason. Ferguson will be better than Schultz and Hendershot will be a very good 2nd TE. Will get a good glimpse of what it should look like next year and beyond

I wouldn't be surprised if Ferguson is a more assignment-sound blocker than Schultz right out of the gate.

Dalton Schultz had 80 yards before leaving the game with a knee injury.

Early reports say he'll miss some time.

Meanwhile, the next men up are rookie tight ends Jake Ferguson and Payton Hendershot.

Hendershot made the team after Sean McKeon was waived to the practice squad while also suffering an ankle injury during preseason. It remains to be seen if he'll be called up from the practice squad, but it's likely we'll at least see Ferguson and Hendershot versus the Giants.

Ferguson is a similar player to Schultz, but probably a little more skilled in the area of blocking. He's been solid in his first couple of games with the team but has not yet made his first catch in the NFL.

Hendershot is more of a pass-catching tight end than a blocker. But that doesn't mean the Cowboys shouldn't utilize his skillset, especially in the absence of Schultz.

The victory against the Bengals was a positive outcome for the Cowboys, but they didn't leave the game unscathed.

How well do you think the' two rookies will be able fill Dalton Schultz's shoes in the coming weeks?
They're both better blockers than Schultz already.

On the Pollard 6 inches to go TD, they gave Ferguson & Hendershot the more difficult play side blocking assignments with Schultz just making a simple backside cut block.
- Side Note: The LB #57 was the Fullback on that play.

Moore schemes Schultz open. He does not do anything special as a receiver and his blocking is erratic.

Without Cooper and Gallup drawing attention away from him downfield, you're seeing how limited Schultz really is. Ferguson will replace him with much less of a dropoff than you might think.
Ferguson is going to be the playmaker at TE we thought we had in Blake Jarwin.

Remains to be seen.
Keep in mind that both Jake and Hender are still rookies. Per pass game, they are still getting adjusted to the NFL nuisances.

Dalton has vet game experience, rapport with 1st and 2nd string QBs, more familiar with the Kellen offense. That's still very valuable, especially in
needy times like this without Dak.

What may be obvious right off the bat, is even as a rookie, Ferguson may alright be superior to Schultz as an in-line blocker.
Apparently it was his blocking on the edge that helped spring the 47 yard splash run by Pollard vs Cincy.

True, I will say Rush has had more time working with backups like Ferguson so that is a benefit in terms of being in sync with each other
