If someone had warned me that I would be writing a post about why the Dallas Cowboys made a solid move by signing Mark Sanchez I would have thought they were crazy. With the way things have unfolded over the past couple weeks it makes perfect sense.

The first thing you need to ask yourself is "What was the front office looking for?" The answer to that question is that they were looking for someone with some significant NFL experience who could come in to a pressure situation and turn in a credible performance should something happen to Dak Prescott while the team waits for Tony Romo's return. Mark Sanchez is not the quarterback you are going to turn to as the savior of the franchise; he is a journeyman-level passer who can fill in at a moment's notice, but also someone who the team can jettison once his usefulness comes to an end.

Some may have preferred that Dallas bring in a younger quarterback like Aaron Murray, who was released by the Chiefs. If the Cowboys were looking for a longer-term solution that would be the sensible move to make, but the Cowboys have their back up already in house. They don't need a a guy to develop into that role. Their situation requires someone who can give them a reasonable NFL-level performance at a moment's notice while serving as a short-term rental. We may not like it, but that is the need in Dallas

I couldn't give two craps about Sanchez. He will never see a meaningful snap. It's all about the Dak Attack.

There's a good chance that Sanchez will never take a snap from center as our QB.

It was strictly a bargain basement deal that made Stephen Jones extremely proud.
lol. I just can not get the image of the buttfumble out of my head! Mark is OK, but he is an accident waiting to happen.

Granted, it's a mental image that's practically impossible to erase. At least, we know the FO has a forgiving sense of humor.

I give props to the front office on patiently waiting for a QB to come to them. They did not panic to waste a draft pick on a trade. They waited to see who became available. And then jumped on it when they could, as not to lose out on a QB and be left with scraps.
Now many will say Sanchez is the scraps, well, he is probably on top of the scrap pile and not on the bottom where the roaches will go to first.

Not saying Sanchez is the answer, but at least he has much NFL experience, and can come in for a series or two, or even a game if needed.
Who knows, maybe he will surprise and it will click...well, ok, maybe that is a stretch, but a blind squirrel finds a nut at times.

This is the type of article you see at BTB. Always trying to convince you that every move the Cowboys make "makes sense".

Sanchez sucks and this is a crap move.

At least they didn't waste a draft pick on a trade for a QB that is not going to win anymore games than the other scrubs that they would have traded for.

He should be able handoff to our RB's and throw a short safe pass better than Weeden or Cassel, so ok for me. Agree with your basic take... Well done

I'd still start Showers over Sanchez. Dude was trying to make chicken salad with chicken ____.

Regarding the butt fumble, I mean, it can't get any worse right? That has to be the most boneheaded play of his career, right? Tell me I'm right.

Lol. Sanchez is arguably the best backup we've had since Orton. He is actually on Orton's level IMO. I hope we never see him. But the Tanny's, Showers, Vaughn's of the world?? Blahh

I might remind everyone Sanchez beat us on 9/11 with the Jets and killed us on Turkey day a couple of years ago.

He may be a 2nd-tier QB but he may have success (if needed) in this offense. Day is still the future.

We have on the roster prior to Sanchez two QB who have never taken a regular season snap, one of the two is a very bubble type of player. Sanchez is a capable backup. We're paying him a backups salary. If Dak gets hurt I have at least a little belief that Sanchez can run something resembling a pro offense, i have no hopes that Showers could do likewise at this point. For you're QB3 you don't need greatness, you need some mild level of competence, that's what we just got.

are you able to get Romo's bobbled snap out of your head? If that's possible, this should be as well.
He is just insurance if Dak goes down or doesn't live up to his preseason hype. Not a big deal.
