Your first sentence is right, but that's about when they play teams on their schedule. Who and where they play is determined by a formula with no "manual manipulation" at all. And yes, 3 games are determined by the previous year's standings, so 1st and 2nd place finishes will likely lead to a more difficult schedule on average.Scheduling is mostly done using linear programs optimizing for a variety of factors and constraints (conference matchups, travel distance, short weeks, unique games like Dallas always on Thanksgiving, etc). I am sure some manual manipulation goes on in order to ensure certain matchups happen, but by and large this is a technology driven process. Dallas has been one of the better teams in the league over the last decade, so it generally makes sense that they tend to draw a more difficult schedule (1st and 2nd place schedules).
I hope we face a difficult schedule. This team needs to be sharp for the playoffs. Is it just me, or does it seem like we always play 90%+ of our non-divisional games against the best teams (AFC & NFC) on the road? Also feels like we draw the two (2) toughest teams of our selected AFC conference on the road as well. Ever since The Goon became dictator, we seem to always draw teams like KC, New England, Green Bay, San Francisco, Seattle on the road. I know that I'm not imagining this.
We do, as does Philly, part of the price we pay for one and doning in the playoffs so often.
Na, it’s always been like that.Is it just me, or does it seem like we always play 90%+ of our non-divisional games against the best teams (AFC & NFC) on the road? Also feels like we draw the two (2) toughest teams of our selected AFC conference on the road as well. Ever since The Goon became dictator, we seem to always draw teams like KC, New England, Green Bay, San Francisco, Seattle on the road. I know that I'm not imagining this.
Told y'all I was correct!!!How is it easier? Our only opponents not in common are Philly plays Minnesota, Tampa Bay, and Kansas City. Cowboys play Detroit, Carolina, and LA Chargers. Philly doesn’t have it much tougher, if at all. Of the common opponents the toughest are San Francisco, Miami, and Buffalo. Dallas has all three on the road, Philadelphia gets all three at home. The other two games not in common, obviously, are the games against Philly. Add to that two of Philly’s away games, New England (already a win) and the New York Jets are away games where the Eagles players are home in time for supper with the the family. And that Jets game is in a stadium, 96 miles from their training facility, and one they play in every year. Before you say so what, it is an advantage to the Eagles. They have never lost a game to the New York Jets. Ever. The Cowboys have the tougher schedule. Neither team has a schedule where “easy” comes into the conversation. Have you looked the either team’s schedule?
Yes, but why is it that Dallas travels to San Fran instead of San Fran coming to Dallas or Buffalo to Dallas? It is on a rotational basis, just like the interconfernce division versus division (AFC V. NFC). But the team matchups is based on the team finish in their own division the previous season.
For example, this season the one interconference game matchup for the NFC East is the AFC West.
2022 1st place Chiefs play 2022 1st place Eagles
2022 2nd place Cowboys play 2022 2nd place Chargers
2022 3rd place Giants play 2022 3rd place Raiders
2022 4th place Commanders play 2022 4th place Broncos
Those four games in 2023 will be home games for the AFC teams.
Good question . No rhyme or reason other than scheduling issues .Yes, but why is it that Dallas travels to San Fran instead of San Fran coming to Dallas or Buffalo to Dallas?
The formula determines who you play.. but not WHEN. There's a big difference between playing at Buffalo in September vs playing at Buffalo in January.https://fbschedules.com/future-nfl-schedules/
It is based on a rotation and how you finish. Here is the link to future rotation.
Yes of course. The formula determines who you play.. but not WHEN. There's a big difference between playing at Buffalo in September vs playing at Buffalo in January.
It’s just you. The schedule is pre-determined by an algo.Is it just me, or does it seem like we always play 90%+ of our non-divisional games against the best teams (AFC & NFC) on the road? Also feels like we draw the two (2) toughest teams of our selected AFC conference on the road as well. Ever since The Goon became dictator, we seem to always draw teams like KC, New England, Green Bay, San Francisco, Seattle on the road. I know that I'm not imagining this.
It’s a real thing. The league “bones” the Cowboys as often as possible. Much like the Cowboys violating a rule that wasn’t on the books in an uncapped year.Is it just me, or does it seem like we always play 90%+ of our non-divisional games against the best teams (AFC & NFC) on the road? Also feels like we draw the two (2) toughest teams of our selected AFC conference on the road as well. Ever since The Goon became dictator, we seem to always draw teams like KC, New England, Green Bay, San Francisco, Seattle on the road. I know that I'm not imagining this.
The last time we played both those teams in the regular season it was in Dallas. So the next time we play them it’s on the road. Logic is a good thingYes, but why is it that Dallas travels to San Fran instead of San Fran coming to Dallas or Buffalo to Dallas?
It’s stupid to argue conspiracy when the NFL schedule is predetermined the same way every yearThere is only one systematic competitive advantage the NFL supports every year, and it's in the name of tradition....and WE benefit from it....as well as Detroit.
Once a year, on Thanksgiving....some team has to travel to Dallas and Detroit on a short week after playing the Sunday before. That's a competitive advantage...not A HUGE one...but an advantage nonetheless. The records in the Thursday games are meaningless.....as long as the game is ALWAYS at home for those 2 teams, they get a yearly approved competitive advantage, that many owners have lobbied to do away with, but are denied.
So Detroit or Dallas fans probably shouldn't go whining about conspiracy krap like this
I think there's something suspicious about the Cowboys scheduling, they have ended the season on the road in 8 out of the last 10 seasons. The NFL thinks that Dallas @ NFC East with playoff implications opponent and cold weather being involved will garner the best ratings. No one can tell me that is just coincidence.
The "when" is not predetermined. It’s stupid to argue conspiracy when the NFL schedule is predetermined the same way every year
