Why? Why waste this money when there is no need? People under estimate the impact that a serious injury can have on a QBs worth.

Teddy Bridgewater, who is a more talented QB than Dak, signed for 500k plus incentives when returning from injury.

Even setting aside the debate over Daks skills, by the time Dak can pass a physical, every team in the league would have decided their starting QBs to open training camp. Teams simply cannot take a chance on him failing a physical or even not being 100% - and that includes the Cowboys. If we're offerring Dak a contract, we're bidding against ourselves.
Bridgewater? Bad pick. Dak is better than Bridge and it's not close.

Playing with the QB. The front office has been playing hardball for a while. Ideally Dak gets extended after year 3. Rather than wait and watch the price continue to rise.
Oh well yea, but they were un control of it with the contract and tags. BUt I hear what your saying. Contracts take 2 sides though. And Dak has progressed each year

They should have done this already and yes they should do it this year. But they won't.

Making a deal with another team's non-exclusive tagged player is a huge advantage for the better teams or those drafting late.

Two 1st rounders is not at all the same, depending on where you're picking.

Just recalling that the first overall pick is worth about 3 mid-first rounders and 4 very late 1st rounders.

And anyway, in the trade market, a 2020 1st rounder is worth a mid-2021 2nd rounder.

Teams drafting late, like New Orleans or Indy, could do well.

This isn't true. A second year tag is a 20% increase from his salary last year, whether it is a exclusive or non-exclusive tag.
There is actually a formula for both tags, and the formula results in a higher salary for the exclusive tag, but if that formula is less than a 20% increase then the 20% increase is what applies. You may be right that the 20% increase will would prove to be what applies.
