The Cowboys picked Lawrence, a defensive end, with the 34th overall pick after giving up their third-rounder to the Washington Commanders. The Cowboys viewed Lawrence as the third-best right defensive end in the draft behind Jadeveon Clowney and Anthony Barr and were willing to make a trade with a divisional rival to get him.
Let's hope he can live up to his billing. We need an impact DE again.

When Zach Martin signed, it was also reported as a four year deal. I thought first rounders got a five year deal. Is the fifth year for first round rookies a "club option" that is just assumed and not announced?

Yes, the 5th year is an option for 1st round draft picks. Tyron Smith originally signed a 4-year contract and just recently the Cowboys picked up his 5th year option.

Great news, time to go to work.

They are about 8m under the cap and if they cut Orton that will jump to 11m. Plenty of room for injuries and mid-season additions and maybe even 5m to rollover to 2015.

Wanna bet?

No need to cut him. Fine him every day he misses. First game of season, if still a no show, designate him as Reserve/ Did Not Report. Recoup his salary to the cap on a weekly basis. End of season, file a grivence to recapture his bonus for year. 2015 - wash, rinse, repeat.

At least that is what I would do, but then I've been called a vindictive ******* by some :)
