You know he does remind me a little bit of Lewis, Around the same size very aggressive in tackling Really good slot corner why not keep Bland outside with Revel, and then whoever you might pick up in the draft.. They do have depth Butler is coming back healthy this year, he didn't get to play last year, and I really liked his upside from what I saw of him the first time he was here..

Going into this season's Free Agency the highest paid pure slot corner was Kyler Gordon at 3yr 40million.
I'd think they have every intention of playing Bland outside. Otherwise it would contend for one of the top 10-15 worst contract decisions in NFL history!

Right. Michael Strahan said (iirc) that if he knew that he could just pay a fine for not attending camp he would've...not attended camp. Don't imagine too many vets like the grind of it all. They just wanna play football. They figure they are vested, established and their record speaks for itself...especially former all-pros and pro-bowlers.

The problem with targeting free agents post-draft is the slim pickings that are left. You can get better deals yes but what about the quality? That would be my concern. Not saying that you can't target better but you would have to admit that you'd be working with a smaller group of players. And it's what a lot a fans simply don't like about the way Jones has approached this in the past. Waiting too late to enter the fray and then finding that there is not a lot to work with...although he has turned his nose up at guys like Travis Henry, who could definitely have helped this team a few years back. Some edge rushers have also been looked over. That 21-23' period was pretty horrible for free agent acquisitions. They didn't do nearly enough and the trade of Amari Cooper was disastrous imo. Probably cost them at least a title game appearance in 2022.

Theres plenty of opportunity post draft to acquire talent.

Teams reshuffle after they draft. Some vets will get replaced. Some guys simply get upgraded.

Durant is a JAG.
I don't mean that as an insult.
The Cowboys need pros who can play and Durant can play. Teams need JAGs.

The Rams moved on from him because they saw their weakness and addressed it.
That play in the Chicago game was almost keystone cops comical.
Don't act like this guy is a long term solution.
It's a good situation for him and the team.
If he balls out, he likely signs a big deal elsewhere and we get a comp pick.
We could even cut ties with Bland next year and keep Durant.
But he's not "scratch CB off the draft list" material.
Still solid pick up.

Yep, and that was a very dumb decision to let JL go by Jerry. I read that he had regrets.

I heard they underestimated his departure. Letting him go was the right thing to do. Not having a replacement killed them.

In Dallas he has a chance to be the #2 CB, if Revel plays up to his potential but with the Rams, Cobie was looking at #3 corner.

I think you're viewing that wrong. Most pure slots are your third corner, thus they are paid less because they are not on the field all the time. If we used Bland in the slot, he would play the outside when we only had two corners out there, thus he'd play pretty much every snap.

I don't think he's the No. 2 corner unless Bland is slow coming back off injury.

Period.
Parker needs to make it fit. Not the other way around.

It's not up to Parker to cram a square peg in a round hole. If things don't fit the scheme they don't fit the scheme. And even though Clowney can still rush, somewhat, I certainly don't want him dropping into coverage. CP want this defense to be fluid and multiple. Leaving QBs and OCs guessing as to who's coming and who's dropping. I just don't see JC fitting into that mold very well.

Owning a 64.0 overall PFF grade since 2023, the 28-year-old Durant could be a cheap starting option at cornerback."

He is indeed a 'cheap starting option'.

I consider him starting insurance. Dallas invested a lot in Bland and was high on Revel, but Bland is coming off another surgery and Revel didn't show much coming off his own injury. We need a third corner, but we also need someone who can step in as a starter if needed.

We had the same situation last year with Diggs and Bland. We chose to trade for Elam, which was a bust, and draft Revel, probably expecting him to at least be ready at the start of the season.

Hopefully, this addition and whatever else we may do turns out better than last year's. At least Durant is more accomplished than Elam.
