Don't be so quick to assume J. Lewis is safe. He's better than some of these guys. But old coaches didn't like him bc he's small and it's obvious the new coaches like the same kind of corners

Lewis is the best CB on the team. Small? That was the great Kris Richard’s opinion which is so valued he is out of coaching right now at a prime age. That guy sucked.

Which division is good for slow guys?
Awuzie is not slow.

He gave up multiple big completions in 2019 but most of those were problems with how he played the ball (or didn't). Most of them were not about him just getting blown away by speed.
Based on what?
My opinion is based on watching all Cowboys plays multiple times. That starts with the game. Then is review using the DVR. Then I review during the week with the coaches film, then I go back during the season and review some past games to compare to more recent games, then after the season I go back and review both scheme issues and individual players.

I've been doing it since the eighties when the best I had was standard definition broadcast game footage on VCR tapes.

I took the next step when I started attending training camp prior to the 92 season.

Along the way more technology became available. The DVR came out and was terrific in that during commercials I could go back and review the previous series in more detail.

Then video became available on youtube for reviewing other teams and for reviewing college games that I had not recorded on the DVR.

Finally a few years ago the coaches film became available which not only gives the 2 additional views but had all games by all teams readily available.

Awuzie is one of the players that I've reviewed the most with regards to 2019.

I recently did a search to find all 20+ yard receptions allowed by the Cowboys in 2019 on the offensive-right side of the field which is where Awuzie lined up on the vast majority of snaps. I went through and reviewed those plays against both to remind myself of his issues and to review some scheme specific issues with regards to how they used him and how they did or in most cases didn't give him help.

A couple of these guys played safety in college. Worley adds competition and injury protection.

Canady is a ST guy who is not getting a chance yo start but when he has had the chance he flashed very well.
Brown should have seen the door. He is straight ***.
Worley is a mix guy can do S or CB
Chido is better with the ball in front of him, sucks whenthe ball is behind him he cant find the ball. But if he was a Deep Safety he will turn heads.4.43 40 isnt bad.
Diggs and Robinson should start with Lewis at the slot.
But I believe the Cowboys will mess up and start Brown and he will get eatin alive.

It disturbs me that this coaching staff saw the corners struggling with that technique and just said screw it keep doing it.

Richard strongly believes in what he was teaching ... and it worked pretty decently in 2018, especially for Byron.

I think coaches sometimes can't see, though, when they are putting a player in a box instead of using that player's strengths. Lewis and Awuzie are both good examples of Richard doing that IMO. The offensive line coach we got from Cincinnati is another example. Both have been solid position coaches at times when they had the right players for what they like to do. They just can't adapt when they don't.

Why do so many people hate Brown? An absolute steal of a 6th rounder. Perfect 3/4 CB on a team. At least he plays hard. Watch him vs Chido or Woods. 2 guys that show very little effort.

Brown's a good depth player and it wouldn't even be that surprising to see him start if the rookies aren't ready yet. I like Lewis better because he makes plays on the ball, but he also takes more risks to do that.

Awuzie is our best corner until proven otherwise, but it's close between Brown and Lewis out of the returning ones for various reasons. It will be interesting to see who moves up in the pecking order. Will Diggs seize a starting spot right off the bat? Will Robinson catapult to the top? Is Worley an option for a starting corner job?

The only guys I'm counting out are Canady and Goodwin, who I don't think will make the team now. Both of them are here more for special teams IMO. There's also Savion Smith, who I think is in a similar boat, and Chris Westry. I find Westry intriguing, but I can't see him beating out these others, so it may be another year on the practice squad for him.

So you watch the games and form your own conclusions just like everyone else.

Chido? Really? That guy sucks almost as much as Garrett and we know how much Garrett sucks. Garrett would be on the Mt. Rushmore of sucking.

You are probably right. Someone of these guys will rise up, especially with a new staff. I think the hate has gone too far on all of Cheeto, Lewis and Brown. Alot of what we are doing at CB is based on the fact both Cheeto and Lewis are in contract years. Not that it wasnt a position of need.
Yeah, don't mind our forum, most of them are still under the impression that we need pro bowlers at every position to win. I guess that's what happens when you have a coach like Garrett that relies on things going perfect to win. I call it the freckled puppet syndrome

I get why Byron doesn’t. I don’t get why the head coach didn’t do something because he had no problem firing the offensive line coach when the offensive line wasn’t playing well due to new techniques.

That has been the entire philosophy under Garrett. We dont adjust, we just hope to get better at executing what we currently do.

And then the buttslaps. That's the last piece of the puzzle.

This is going to be really interesting to see where all the defensive pieces fit. I would love to see @xwalker do a projection of what he thinks the depth chart will be in the new defensive alignment.

Maybe he didn't have a strong enough understanding of defensive coaching to recognize which changes needed to be made? Or maybe he felt Richard was protected by Jerry, or maybe he recognized the pattern he put in place blaming other coaches for his failures right or wrong and thought he had pushed that message too long already.

The thing is if he identified the problem he could have retained Richard with directives to allow players to use the techniques that best suit them. Maybe Marinelli agreed with Richard as well and Garrett respected them both too much to demand change? Lol who knows the logic?
