Funny we are going older now

I was curious how much of the age philosophy was Garrett's and how much was the Joneses'. Same thing with not spending much in FA.

Stephen made the comment after the 2016 about being wary about giving guys a 3rd contract.
So, I think it was SJ and the FO who shied away from older players. And it helps now our DL coach isn't in their ears that he can coach up some bum to get blown up in the run game and get 5 sacks

McCoy is a far superior run defender than Collins. Collins is a better rusher at this point in McCoy's career. McCoy is still better all-around. this is a very good pickup.

Remember Stephen always hated 30+ old free agents.....until now (lol). MM apparently talked some sense into him...

I’m thinking maybe Vets wouldn’t buy JG’s mantra crap so we went young all the time. Mike is smart to go with a mix of youth and vets.

"Mentioned on @nflnetwork earlier: Expect DT Gerald McCoy's three-deal with the #Cowboys to come in somewhere in the range of $20 million. So north of $6 million per year. "

publisher: @MikeGarafolo

That's more than reasonable.

Detroit just signed DT Danny Shelton to a 2-year, $8 Million contract. He is a 26-year old, 6' 2" 345+ pound run stuffing specialist who had 61 tackles and 3 sacks last season. He would have been a nice get for Dallas given their issues with run defense last year.

So $10 Million for BOTH McCoy and Shelton would have really helped plug up the middle of the defensive line.

I’ve wanted vets for years. I thought that was a McClay/Stephen thing but maybe it was JG.
II actually think the Cowboys got burned when they didn't get their investment on the Brandon Carr signing and other than bottom of the barrel free agent signings, were afraid to spend big on free agency. I also think they got too caught up in the building thru draft philosophy, and forgetting that you still have to make significant free agent signings, beside building thru draft.

Stinks. I was hoping they'd add another DT like a Shelton. But I wonder if they think McCoy is enough and just then look to the draft.

Yep.

Vets from other teams probably had seen a REAL NFL Quality Head Coach and Garrett did not want his young guys to know the truth.
