So where do we go in round 2 now? I say either, S, ILB, DT, or OL

Igor Coming To Town
Posted by mickshot at 3/6/2009 5:32 PM CST on truebluefanclub.com

Free agent defensive end Igor Olshanky came into town during Thursday's commotion for a visit, and the Dallas Cowboys made sure he didn't leave town on Friday without signing a contract, which is exactly what he did around 5:30 p.m. (CST), putting his name on a contract. Olshanky, a five-year starter in San Diego, signed a four-year, $18 million contract, with roughly $8 million guaranteed.

This move is in direct response to three-year starter Chris Canty signing his unrestricted free-agency deal with the New York Giants this past Saturday, leaving the Cowboys without much experience at the right defensive end spot. The only backups of note are three-year veterans Stephen Bowen and Jason Hatcher. The Cowboys did sign least years's practice squad defensive end Marcus Dixon to the 80-man roster.

He's basically what we let leave in free agency for half the price and similar age. For the money Jerry and Stephen did a good deal here. Other teams wanted him too. The price is fair. There won't be aby transition issues whatsoever.

Is that deal a screwup by mickey? I can't believe that deal.

Neither can I.

One thing that might reduce his price is that he'll be a UFA again at 30 years old, about the oldest that you can reasonably expect a guy to generate a decent contract -- with a longer deal you really have to "buy" that opportunity from the guy.

This a huge upgrade to our run defense. While Canty and Igor are about the same in skill Canty is a better pass rusher while Igor is a better run stopper.

Also a good cheap deal.

His parents should be punished for naming him Igor.

both Igor and Canty wear #99 as well
...Insert clever joke about a certain mod around here with a picture of Igor as his av and the number 99 in his screenname...

This seems too good to be true. It's literally 10s of millions less than Canty's deal.

Anyway, I'm very happy to have him. I didn't think, until recently, that JJ would do it.

Heck of a deal.

Very happy about this.

Good, young player at a great price!

Yep. And Spears is pretty good against the run as well AND we weren't getting that much pass rush from Canty anyway. Although he is pretty good at batting 'em down.

that's because all he could do was raise him arms in the air, because he was being stunted at the line so often

but I digress
